The new voice of Victoria Secret: Bob Dylan |
|
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=529&e=3&u=/ap/20040405/ap_en_tv/dylan_lingerieNEW YORK - New, from Victoria's Secret: the MiracleBob?
The legendary Bob Dylan (news) appears in a new series of television ads for Victoria's Secret, his grizzled face intercut with shots of model Adriana Lima cavorting though Venice in a bra, panties and spike heels.
Don't worry. The 62-year-old Dylan keeps his clothes on.
Dylan's song "Love Sick," from his Grammy-winning 1997 album "Time Out of Mind," provides the musical backdrop for the ad, which airs in 15-, 30- and 60-second versions.
And I thought Led Zeppelin was sold out with those damn Cadillac Commericials :eyes:

1. Dylan's just fucking with people |
|
He has messed with minds his entire career. This ranks up there with playing "Blowin' In The Wind" for West Point grads. This isn't selling out so much as causing consternation and confusion.

I mean, the product means nothing. It's the ACT of lending his name to a company, which goes against type, that is the reason. It could be BBQ sauce and the reason would be the same.

But honestly, I thought it was a stroke of genius for Cadillac to use Zep... let's face it, the 20-somethings of the 70s are now just the type of people Cadillac markets to.
I think Sheraton also used "Let's Spend the Night Together".
It's brilliant.

6. why is it considered selling out? |
|
i think it is kinda fitting for Bob. Women have had an impact on his life and music, mingling the two doesn't seem out of place, to me anyway.
he already has fame and fortune so it ain't that he seeks...

The only liberal radio host they have said that Dylan had joked in the 60's that he'd only go commericial in support of women's lingerie.
I find it kind of amusing in that light . Also if you're familiar with the the song you'll appreciate the not so subtle absurdity.

9. I enjoy seeing boomers have hissyfits about "the voice of their... |
|
generation" shilling for thongs. Dylan has always had a healthy contempt for his audience (one of the things I like about him)

pretty good for a 62 year old.
Saw him last year and it was the best show I've ever seen him do. First time I was him was clear back in 78 or so with Mick Ronson playing lead.
Last year he was playing in a hall that only held 3500. Did some songs that were quite pointed in their politics. One example was the Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll with these lyrics in the song --
William Zanzinger who at twenty-four years Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him And high office relations in the politics of Maryland Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders And swear words and sneering and his tongue it was snarling In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking
For some reason it made me think of George W. Bush....

12. I saw that commercial the other day; thought I was seeing things! |
|
I was saying to myself, that looks like Bob Dylan; no, that can't be Bob Dylan; yeah, it is Bob Dylan. I found it quite bizarre; what's the point of putting Bob Dylan in a Victoria's Secret commercial? I don't get it.
