Attention fans of 80's Punk/Metal/Hardcore
Have you noticed that the somewhat more political subject matter of the music is more relevant now than it was, say, 15-20 years ago? My God, D.R.I's first LP is like a blueprint for what's going on right now.Just substitute * for Reagan in the song lyrics.

5. I was hoping the recent Bands against Bush tour would be the start of a ..
...return to good old fashioned political punk rock. Guess that remains to be seen, but let's hope so. God forbid a whole generation grows up thinking this bullshit like Blink 182/Good Charlotte/Sum 41 is actually punk :puke:

6. Even New Wave was political...
...Depeche Mode: Master & Servant, People are People, Everything Counts.

....Gang of Four: (nearly everthing)

....The Clash: (nuff said)

..even ABC did some political stuff, and then there was Midnight Oil, New Model Army, etc etc.

8. haha, you are so right...
Actually, I was listening to some Minutemen the other day and thinking that. Granted, like you said, somethings are a little dated, but songs like paranoid chant, or even Political song for Michael Jackson to sing, I think fall right into that...Kevin.

9. You're not the only one
who's dusting off their old metal albums. That music is as relevant today as it was in the '80s.

I keep waiting for some of the new metal bands to start making anti-right wing music. Aside from a song here and there, not much has been forthcoming. It's been three years already. Somebody should have picked up the torch.

If I remember correctly, a lot of those old bands were underground back then. You really had to dig to find them. Nobody played them on the radio. Maybe all the good guys are underground and I'm just too out of touch to find them.

10. I wonder if fundies realize

that the "Satanic" music that they railed against in the 80's is now selling cars and such in the new millenium. Pathetic fools. Hell I will be 36 this month and I still listen to the hardest stuff I can find. And I can't forget my beloved industrial music as well.
