Has anyone gotten the "Search.Conduit" virus? |
|
This is a virus where Conduit.com takes over a search engine. It attaches to it and redirects all actions. I use Google Chrome. When I open and begin a search in Google, I am redirected to Bing. I hate Bing.
The virus also slows computer response time and f's up page scrolling.
I have done a complete anti-virus scan. I have downloaded three approved malware softwares. I have conduit.com and every variation thereof on my restricted/blocked sites. And the virus will not go away!!!
Help...

If you're comfortable editing your registry, I'd do a search for conduit.com and delete every reference to it, you might want to back up your registry first. Another thing I'd suggest is to restart your computer in safe mode and then try running your malware scans from there. Often times you want be able to remove all the malware unless you're in safe mode. Also, what malware programs are you using? I'd recommend running Super Anti-spyware and Malwarbytes.

3. thanks so much ! I will give that a shot. I tried Spybot, ARO2011 |
|
and Registry Fix, along with a scan using Avast anti-virus.
Problem is, with each one you download, you have to pay to get all they find cleaned out.
I wish I knew exactly which malware scan software actually knows about conduit.
thanks again!

13. Malwarebytes and Super-Antispyware are great ones. |
|
I'd try running either of those in safe mode (with network support if you need to download it first). To get into safe mode, tap F8 while your computer is starting up, after your BIOS flash screen. Reinstalling your OS is certainly an option, but I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult to remove in safe mode. I'd definitely try that method first.

5. I've never ever had a virus |

Maybe it's because I've used a mac since 1998?

8. Linux is pretty virus safe too, apparenlty isolates them from the puter |
|
and then "freezes" them in situ. Something like that. That's what Mr. Dixie told me, anyhow. He speaks puter, I translated what he said.

6. Husband says that ComboFix will do it, from majorgeeks. com. Use Ccleaner first to |
|
clean out out all your temp files first, though.
Just FYI, fixing your own computer is always a risk if you don't know what you are doing. If you aren't sure, then call a pro. :)

9. thanx....to both of you. there is a site out there that says under |
|
no circumstances use combofix. The virus seems to be attaching to everything except IE...sounds fishy, doesn't it.
Darn, you are right...I should pay someone to fix....It's just that I just did that..paid to have it cleaned up.
Damn ABC ! I was trying to watch a clip on youtube of something they broadcast and they made you download a program to view it...and that was the exact moment my pc got infected.

10. At some point you just have to throw up your hands |
|
and reinstall the system. If fighting a virus is going to take me more than a couple of hours, that's what I do.
