"Oh God...you don't KNOW how good your timing is."
Edited on Thu Sep-22-11 05:05 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
Went to Mexican Restaurant #5 today.

Talked to the guy behind the counter, he said "wait a minute," and went and got the son of the owner.

"Oh God...you don't know how good your timing is. We started a project to build our Website and the guy who started just walked away! I have people come in all the time asking for a copy of our menu or to see it online and I am embarrassed to tell them that we don't have one!"

I said "Two weeks from the day you commit to do business with me, your site will be up and running."

Told him my price, told him my process. He said "I will speak with my parents. You probably will hear from us on Tuesday."

I said, "I'd love to do this for you and look forward to hearing from you."

DU Vibes, please!

From now until the end of October it is going to be a time of AGGRESSIVE daily prospecting for new business.

I do not intend to drive around in the rain in November and December looking for table scraps like I did last year.

:-)

1. Good luck and vibes coming. I love seeing your finished products
when you post them here.

They always make me want to go out for a bite.

Something I rarely do.

Cheers.

7. Thank you very much...
...I tell the owners "you have to make them HUNGRY, then they will come in for a meal."

It sounds so basic, but it's 100% true.

14. Thanks rurallib...
...he DEFINITELY liked the photos from the other restaurants.

I'd also love to get this account because it is in the same strip mall as my new barber! I found the restaurant on Yelp and as I drove to the strip mall I thought "THIS looks familiar!"

5. Thanks CP...
...this Saturday the pain-in-the-ass neighbors who seem to hold a garage sale every other week (thereby killing street parking) put a flyer on the door saying "THIS Saturday, let's make it a BLOCK PARTY YARD SALE!"

So I'm gonna get up at the crack of dawn and come back after sundown, and just HANG with every business owner who is willing to give me 5 minutes of their time.

I'm going to print up a ton of my flyers and just be a major messenger of GOOD VIBES for all.

The gentleman I referenced above saw the food photos and pointed to the Shrimp Cocktail and said "OOOOH! WE have that!"

3. And here's an idea.
Now that you've quoted the price...and I assume you are hosting?

Once you have delivered great site and they are already pleased?

Offer a discount on the price you charge for their hosting in a month for each business client who comes to you and gets a website from you.

Websites for a restaurant especially are critical. It is sometimes a deciding factor because I like to look at a place and see the menu before I go there. ESPECIALLY as a tourist.

Don't know if you are in a touristy area or not.

:hi:

4. Silicon Valley...most likely "touristy."
Especially in this economy, most people want to know what they;re getting before they spend their money.

High quality and generous portions will win out every time, and a professional Website is the best way to provide that info.

I am actually giving my new clients the first year of domain registration and hosting FREE.

It has proven to be very popular. I give an additional discount incentive to pay 100% up front. The final amount I get is more than when I was under-charging and including the hosting and domain as a separate line item.

9. Satisfied "chatty" customers are the best advertisement you can get.
Edited on Thu Sep-22-11 06:00 PM by alphafemale
And if you can give them an "incentive" to be chatty...?

Can't hurt.

100 percent upfront is a great idea. New businesses often fail within a few months. Their priority to keep their 18 month obligation to you is probably not high on their list.

10. A good and trusted friend told me yesterday...
"..Some of the businesses you're doing Websites for today are going to be gone a year from now."

He's right.

The current economy is one hell of a lot meaner than many people would like to believe.

But the "money up front" thing for me is new this year. I get a commitment, I go to work, I don't like waiting for my money when the work is done. Knowing I've been paid in full just makes me more determined to do it right and do it on time.

6. Good luck and hope you get the job.
I always check out the Web site of any restaurant before I go there to see what is on the menu.

...I have to bite my tongue when restaurant owners say "We don't NEED a Website."

Who doesn't need MORE customers?
