Don't come here if you don't have a car, let alone prefer to walk. The place is spread out like crazy. Plus the curbs are practically a foot high from the road.
And don't worry, I'm sure not all of Texas is like this. But I'll be sure to avoid the suburbs next time at all costs.
Damn I need to go to Austin ASAP!

We may be spread out (Austin has its fair share of sprawl) but I think there's plenty to make you happy :D The Houston Press and The Handbook of Texas Online for research ;) Irving, Texas

3. But that sounds like a great place if you like to walk. |

You can walk for days and days before you get to your destination. Now what avid walker wants to quickly get to their destination?
I think you mean Irving is a bad place if you don't like to walk or to put a positive spin on it, Irving is a GREAT PLACE if you love to drive!

4. Austin is not really any better for those without a car. |
|
The average walkability score for Austin neighborhoods is 47, which is actually a few points worse than the St. Louis in-the-ghetto neighborhood I moved down here from. http://www.walkscore.com/TX/Austin

6. It's about the same as Savannah, GA. Which I quite enjoyed. |

5. Well walking distance isn't much of a problem as trying to get across. |
|
Plus their is nothing here! Oh look a corporate thug HQ building, a vacant lot and another corporate thug HQ.

7. Irving has a new library with no air conditioner |
|
LEED Certified Gold. 78 geothermal wells keep it a constant 75 degrees inside. Even in 107 degree heat. 40 covered parking spots to charge your EV. All the rest of the spots are covered too. And the carports have solar panels on them.
Irving got a Texas Award, the equivalent of a Malcolm Baldridge Award for Excellence.

It's just Dallas sucks. /rimshot
Or it might be Valley Ranch where the Cowboys are located - they've sucked for years. /rimshot

11. I'm a Packer fan, so I enjoy the Cowboy's misery. |
|
Good luck to the Texans. Maybe they'll meet my Packers in the Super Bowl.

13. Dallas is a case of suburban sprawl. |
|
Pretty much a lot like Houston as far as crazy drivers and a zillion freeways.
Most of dallas sucks. But they do have a good Hard Rock Cafe in an old church, with stained glass windows of rock icons.
I don't think you can get around anywhere in Texas without a car. Not unless you live in a super expensive inner city condo near a rail line.
They put light rail in in Houston, and everybody loved it. They put light rail in Dallas and everybody loved it, in spite of the people working against light rail in both cities.
In Houston, we have the occasional Darwin Award by a driver making a left turn in front of the train and getting killed. They are electric, silver and so quiet, people do not see or hear them.
