chores correctly including dnloading security suite updates and Windows updates? (May use Windws now and then) Getting an iPad.
No reason to suspect Apple just cautious.
Q.2 --------------- How the heck do folks avoid malware during the long time needed to dnld the initial security updates? "Unprotected will be infected in seconds" they say. ------------- (Aside): Shack sold me a cell..later a network rep said it was used phone
Thank you SO much!! Your pal Sam..not very much of a tekkie but admire that trait.

1. Apple stores don't sell pc's, so there's no loading of security software or windows updates |

Macs work right out of the box. If you need, they'll transfer files from your old 'puter to your new one, but that's about all.

2. While you can run Windows on a dual-boot Mac computer, you cannot, as far as I know, |

run it on an iPad, which has its own operating system, iOS.
My older computer had Windows XP on one partition, and I let the store's repair department (a locally-owned Mac store that's been in business almost as long as Apple has) partition the hard drive and install Windows.
But you're getting an iPad, so Windows is irrelevant. If there are updates to iOS,it will tell you and ask you if you want to install it. If there are updates to your apps, little numbers will appear on the icon for the App Store. You can see the list of apps for which updates are available, and then you decide whether you want to install them or not.
For example, I have the Kindle app installed but I don't need the update that lets you hear the sound effects for children's books, so I ignore it.
