Do you have nightmares about jobs you left years ago?
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 07:34 PM by ohiosmith
In the 60s and 70s I managed a series of shoe stores. I frequently dream that I have forgotten to order inventory and awake in a panic. Fuck me!

1. I remember Kinney Shoes.
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 07:38 PM by femmocrat
There used to be a lot of different shoe stores in the 1960s, 70s and 80s--- Schiff's, Father & Son Shoes, Chandler's, Thom McAn, Naturalizer, and a bunch I no longer remember.

6. Actually, I have a recurring nightmare about attending college.
I've had this dream multiple times. In it, I've signed up for so many credits/classes that I literally forget a couple of them, don't attend them for weeks, and then find out that the major projects/papers are due the next day. So, of course, I panic because I'm going to flunk, and try to produce term papers overnight on subjects I know nothing about.

What it means, who knows. I have no plans at this point in my life to go "back to school".

25. So do I, but not very often.
I did well in school.   :)

I didn't do so well on the job, which is probably why my nightmares are mostly about the job.

7. I resigned from a job that went to hell about three years ago, and I often dream that I've gone back
to give it another chance, and after being shown my desk and the water cooler all over again, I realize I've made a terrible mistake in coming back. I hate that dream.

10. Intermittant nightmares about high school
Really freaky ones. Like not knowing my locker combo...or getting to school and not knowing my schedule (what classroom to go to next).

I was in junior high from 1961-63. That stuff sticks with you.

12. I retired nearly nine years ago
But I still have bad dreams in which I am still at work and feeling miserable, when I suddenly remember that I am retired and I can leave.

Then I have a horrible time trying to find the train station to get home....

If you're still having nightmares about Kinney's, it must have been a traumatic experience working there.

15. Yes.
I was laid off 19 years ago, but I still dream that I am back there and am in big trouble. Sometimes I know in my dream that I don't belong there anymore; I'm not getting paid; I keep hoping that nobody will notice that I don't have a badge or a security clearance, or the fact that I just took home a bunch of classified documents. If I get caught trying to sneak them back in the building, I will be in deep doodoo. Other times I am naked, and I hope nobody will notice.

16. That looks like the one in West LA
On ... National? Sawtelle? near Sepulveda.

Was there one there, or am I remembering wrong?

Wow. Would not have even thought of that if I hadn't seen that photo.

17. not often, but yes. I was a flight attendant
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 07:46 AM by dana_b
for TWA and I'm usually late for the flight (only happened once in reality), the aircraft is full of very demanding passengers, and we are diverted to somewhere that we weren't supposed to be going to.

I remember Kinney Shoes too - they were THE shoe store to go to when I was little. Wasn't it Thom McCan's for men? sigh... my age is catching up with me.

29. Not exactly a nightmare
but sort of. I loved my job as a flight attendant and stopped doing it reluctantly years ago. I still have dreams every few months that I am still a FA, and I am so happy to be doing the work and on a plane. Then I wake up... :(

I don't know if that's worse than the "exam dream" or not. :scared:

22. Nightmares is right! It was a good job, but the company was run by terrible people!
Sometimes I'm still working there, sometimes just visiting the place. The oddest variation happens toward morning. Some part of me realizes I'm in pajamas and/or barefoot, and that part gets into the dream, so I spend my time looking for my safety boots!

27. Yes, but somewhat indirectly
At my last job (I've had a new one the last year) I had an abusive boss. Her behavior was so similar to an abusive ex BF (minus the physical abuse) that it brought back memories. Double the nightmare fun!

28. Occasionally I do
Edited on Wed Sep-28-11 09:47 AM by annonymous
Most of my bad dreams are about a boss I worked for 20+ years ago. Most of them are about meeting her again unexpectedly. I sometimes have nightmares about revisiting high school. I have heard such dreams are about unresolved issues one tries to correct subconsiously.
