there are still a few around. The last time I saw one was the "Spy Kids" or "Spy Kids 2" in Ohio. Before that, it was "Stripes" in the early 80s in upstate NY.

I would love to go to a drive in movie.
Wouldn't have to listen to the people around you.
It was safe for little kids to walk around in groups.
We were looking for teenagers who were not looking at the movie.
We would sneak up and scare them, and run away.

3. The McHenry Outdoor Theater |
|
It's about nine miles from my house. This is the last weekend of the season, and they are showing Grease and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
During the summer they show current films, but in September they switch to retro shows.

8. Waaaay back in the early 80s... |
|
I was in the Air Force, based in the Phoenix area. A friend and fellow instructor bought this used car. It was a late 60s Caddy convertible with EVERY bell & whistle on it and very low miles.
It was the perfect drive-in car! We would put the top down, and he and his wife would sit in the front and my ex (wife at the time) would sit on top of the back seat back with a cooler full of beer on the seat between us.
Last movie I remember seeing in that car was Ghostbusters - a brand new release at the time.

we'd pack up the station wagon with the dog, two little girls and Mrs. Lib and I. Then we would all be asleep shortly after the movie started and I would wake up when the lights came on.

14. Favorite drive-in memory? A head full of acid while watching the Exorcist... |
|
I never laughed so hard in my life. Literally thought I would bust a gut. My brother and I were in his Cutlass convertible, with the top down and it started raining. We laughed about that too, and left the top down.

15. When I was in college in the late 90s there were still a couple in Atlanta |
|
I went there on dates whenever I could...My first car was a Chevy Blazer so there was plenty of room to stretch my dates out...
Oh, the movies?? IIRC, the last time I went it was a double feature: "I still know what you did last summer" and the "Psycho" remake...fun times!!

17. I haven't been since about 1975 |

I was in graduate school living in a house with three other people. We took four lawn chairs and a cooler full of wine and other drinks to the drive-in theater and sat outside the car watching Barbarella, which was already a couple of years old.
