7. Yes, it is.

Back in 1993 I was at the height of my BA fandom. I tried being "The PInk Adder" and "The Navy Blue Adder" but neither really stuck. "Plaid Adder" works better because you get the internal rhyme. I even had my own theme song:

The sound of hoofbeats cross the glaaaaade,
Lock up your hamburgers and wieners!
Here comes, with gaily clashing blade,
The king of fashion misdemeanors!
Plaid Adder! Plaid Adder!
He rides a tartan steed!
Plaid Adder! Plaid Adder!
He's very plaid indeed...

Plaid, his ugly madras shorts,
Plaid, his fuzzy tam-o-shanter,
Plaid, his watch made out of quartz,
Plaid, the steed on which he canters...
Plaid Adder! Plaid Adder! Without a fashion plan!
Plaid Adder! Plaid Adder! Avoid him if you can!

Strangely, at the time even though I am a woman, I sort of thought of the PA as male. Now that I've had the handle for longer I think of her as a woman. Weird how our secret identities work.

6. How long does it take you to write one of them articles?

And what's the secret to your proliferation? I have trouble writing academic papers that are usually shorter than what you write for DU. It really gives me a lot of pain coming up with the words. How do you do it?

Seriously, that's what does it. I mean, I'm not getting paid for this. I write these things because the arguments seem obvious to me I can't fucking believe that nobody in the mainstream media is making them. I mean not that anyone pays much attention to me, cause who the fuck am I, but at least it gets the argument out there.

As for how long it takes, well, it depends. If it's something where the basic argument is fairly simple--like, say, "Oversold"--I can do it in a couple hours. If the argument is more complicated it takes a lot longer. The longest I've ever spent on a column was probably "Cassandra's Curse," because it took me a long time to hash out the argument.
