Today I was hired by Mr. Freeper himself.
Talk about creepy. But at least now I have the grand opportunity to work two jobs this summer. Financially I have been strapped and after several financial disasters decided the only way out of my mess is to either work more at my regular job or pick up a second and I made the latter decision in order to avoid more overnight travels.
Soooo, here I am sitting in this office today while Mr Freeper is proudly pointing out his wall photos with Reagan, Bush Sr, Chimpy; later he points at a list of several speakers at his conferences, and he sorta snickers when he reads Jimmy Carter's. Geez, and I met the rest of the staff, all very freepy-looking, of course; (very pasty, plump and puritan--I was the only latina-like; no other minority in sight) but the job is mine and the money (after the training phase) will be eventually good, and I will be able to be home more often.
For three years now I have been driving around in an old Toyota van with my DU sticker and PETA stickers and "Stand for Peace". As I left the interview and clippety clopped over to my homey van amid the Cadillacs and sedans I knew next time I pull in this parking lot it will have to be in my more conformist Saab which today is in the shop getting prepped for this job. I will wait until I pass the initiation and grooming phase and line up my accounts before I pull in here again with my peace van. Sometime next year or so when I am deeply embedded on the payroll and will care less about the snickers and whispers. Sigh.....,
just another corporate 'ho.

1. Do NOT visit DU while at work....
rest assured that they keep tabs on what is being surfed. Stay away
from DU if you wish to preserve this job...

2. Just think of it as an opportunity to convert him
Get to know him, find his weak spot, then BAM, nail him with indeniable facts! Mwahahahahha
Oh yeah, they don't "do" facts. Good luck!
PS - at least you have a job. I'm still looking.

3. Keep a low profile. You don't like politics, but is going to vote for Bush
etc... only if asked about politics. I'm sure some opportunity to do creative mischief will present itself when you least expect.

Does that mean you're not flying anymore?

5. Try being gay...

Hiding one's political beliefs is NOTHING by comparison. Though I can safely say "I feel your pain", but that's a worthless consolation for having to hide in all things what mainstream folk blindly take for every day of the week, yet alone all the flaunting they subconsciously do...

6. Good luck to you peacebuzzard
You're doing what you need to do and hopefully the time will pass quickly, until you can catch up financially and not work two jobs. The main thing you want to do there is just do the best job you can. Keep focused and show them by example (subtlety of course) that the other side does damn fine work. One day you will be able to come out of your closet and tell them you are an unabashed liberal and you survived the conditions there.

I would fantasize that I was doing research and documenting the enemy mind. That might be a good sanity tactic, write a book about your undercover work experience.

But again good luck to you.

Sonia
