calling any entomologists
biggest freaking flies I have ever seen. at least I am pretty sure they are flies, although they resemble pepsis wasps a bit

they are sitting on Virginia Creeper leaves (see berry in lower right) which seem to average about 3 to 4 inches long (individual leaflets)

they flew off still copulating/attached like that

anybody have a clue?
