One of the wonderful perks we educators get is learning new stuff everyday. For instance, recently while reading a student's discussion post I learned why Hobbes (no, not the cartoon) was such a hard-ass.

It seems that "he had a theory in his mind."

1. I seriously don't know where they come up with this shit
these two aren't funny. Just sad ... and a little scary

When President Lincoln implemented the Emancipation Proclamation he directly “disobeyed”, if you will, the rulings of the Dred Scott case. He declared all slaves free which according to the outcome of Dred Scott he could not do because the Federal government did not have the authority to do this. Thus the Civil War takes place. This I think was the begging of the end for dual federalism.

this student had a credible post on federalism ... until

The Articles of the Constitution clearly define what states can and cannot do. The 10th ammendment states "Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated."
