Lars von Trier is notorious for these crazy movies. This one is just stunning to watch and uses the Richard Wagner's Act 1 Prelude from the Opera Tristan und Isolde as it's musical theme which worked amazingly well.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1527186/The movie was available thru VOD even though it is in the theaters. I'd rather just pay the $10 to comcast so I can pause for bathroom breaks and not deal with annoying patrons in the theater. But I wish I had a bigger TV set to watch this thing.
The cast was amazing and quite a selection. Kristen Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg played sisters, both dealing with depression. The movie was in two acts and the first act was the wedding reception for the sister played by Dunst with Alexander Skarsgård as her groom. Kiefer Sutherland played Charlotte's husband. In a unique casting Alexander Skarsgård's RL father, Stellan Skarsgård, was in the movie but he actually played the groom's best friend and boss of Dunst's charater.
The movie was a very quiet movie. It didn't feel scripted but instead you were there watching this wedding reception happen and watching how the depression was taking over these 2 sisters. The 2nd part of the movie was focused on Charlotte Gainsbourg role and get this, the fact that a rogue planet was about to collide into the planet earth.
It was just a beautiful movie to watch although a bit sad. The allegory with the colliding planets worked wonderfully and Kirsten Dunst actually won best actress at the Cannes Film Festival. Maybe this is her year to win big during the awards season.
