In the 1990s, Austin, TX suffered two major losses: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Hicks
Both of them would have far reaching influence, not expected when they were living

Both of them presented a "truth" that many people, especially Americans, were afraid to confront

Both of them were simply the fucking BEST at what they did

Both of them are timeless

Both of them had the cynical attitude that makes us realist so happy

Cheers - to Hicks and Vaughan!

3. Never far from my thoughts
I have both as stations on Pandora.com. (I especially like the lyrics of Crossfire, Tightrope & Wall of Denial). Shame that Hicks is not more widely known ~

Hey hey hey hey....alley's the roughest place I've ever been
All the people down there....livin' for their whisky, wine, and gin

I heard a pistol shoot....yeah and it was a .44
Somebody killed a crap shooter cause he didn't....shake, rattle, and roll
Hey hey hey hey....alley's the roughest place I've ever been
All the people down there....killin' for their whisky, wine, and gin

6. Also, I moved back home from Austin in late 1992, so that must have been quite a blow as well
