How many people in your ignore list? Not who, but how many?
Asking, or telling, who is most likely against DU rules, and rightly so.

But I'm curious about how people use the ignore feature. How many names do you have in it, and are they really old ones who aren't around anymore, or recent ignores?

10. I use 'ignore threads' for one or two people who will almost certainly never post
an OP that interests me - it keeps the forums uncluttered. But I don't bother with 'ignore replies' - if there's going to be a line in the thread anyway, I might as well see what it contains (on the principle that even a blind squirrel finds an occasional nut)...

And it was not my choice.

They asked Skinner to put me on a forced ignore with them.

NO idea why...

I have only used it myself very briefly, when I was upset with someone. I think the longest it lasted was 24 hours.

One of my close friends, who knows me very well, says that sometimes I come on a little strong, and people don't know how to handle me...

So they find that distancing themselves is the easiest thing to do.

Thank you for your very uplifting message today...

19. I have five people on ignore.
Often, people I have on ignore are tombstoned.

Some of those I have on ignore have been there since the primaries. A couple of them are just nasty, whether or not it is primary season.

I don't mind people who disagree with me. But I can't stand people who use personal attacks instead of arguing their point of view.

37. Only three, and all for the same reason: personal attacks.
Edited on Mon Oct-10-11 01:19 PM by Xithras
I don't care whether people agree with me, and I enjoy the occasional heated debate, but I draw the line at personal attacks and slander. All three of the people on my ignore list, while in arguments in various threads, stopped arguing the topic and started attacking me personally for disagreeing with them. Not cool.

Of course, I'm pretty sure that I'm on a few myself. I can be a bit hardheaded and brusque when I'm sure I'm right, and I know that I've rubbed some people the wrong way over the years. It isn't intentional, but that's the way it is. Nobody should censor themselves simply to make others happy.

I will probably take him off soon. There are a number of them that I'm often tempted to put on "ignore", but I have resisted. Most of them are people who consistently post negative stuff, often starting it out with "OMG!!!" or "HOLY SHIT!!!" or other such alarmist crap. I usually just unrec and hit that little box with the "X" in it.

58. One. I had two, but one got TS'd, for reasons unrelated to my issues with them
To get on my ignore list, a person has to not just disagree with me, not just have views that I find abhorrent, not just be rude or insulting. They have to actively bait: to look for people of a different viewpoint (e.g. on a DU group which holds different views to theirs) and to start taunting and attacking.

Hence only two in seven years.
