1. That's part of a Catholic Mass
called the "Sign of Peace".

My shy self used to recoil from it.

4. "PASSING of the Peace." PASSING.
THIS is the "Sign of Peace."

What, Ringo was the priest at your church?

8. I hated it too.
Back when my mom was going through her phase of feeling like she had to drag her kids to church, I'd always kind-of look around or at my feet or off somewhere else in hopes of avoiding eye contact with those around me during that awful "peace be with you" part. Hated shaking hands with total strangers, even more so since I didn't want to be there at all.

10. Me too.
Even now, if I'm at a wedding or funeral, which is generally the only time I'm at a mass, I start to get very nervous when that part approaches.

3. Um, not sure why you'd go to church if you don't like the people
well enough to shake hands with them? I'm very shy but don't mind "passing the peace" because there's not enough time to have a conversation, so you can be friendly without having to say clever things, KWIM?

In my small church, sometimes if a person has a rotten cold they don't want to spread, he or she will bow their head to the other person. Usually produces a smile and doesn't spread the germs.

6. As a Catholic, I voted yes
But now I really wish we'd do jazz hands instead at that part of the mass

7. Yes.
We do that after the opening song. We don't say "peace be with you" or anything like that, just basically "good morning" and maybe our names.

9. We often hug, too. May the peace of the Lord be always with you.
one of the best parts of the service.
