Usually 'lectric ones don't shave close enough

Braun used to be great, but they've gone downhill, big time

Norelco used to suck, but I've heard people say it got better

1. Electric razors kind of suck, generally...I've found Braun to be okay
but I now use an old Gilette adjustable safety razor inherited from my grandfather, uses double-edge blades (which are quite inexpensive, especially compared to cartridge refills for a multi-blade razor like the Mach 3 or Fusion), gives a good close shave, the adjustability means you can change the blade angle for closeness, and the razor itself lasts forever if properly taken care of (the one I have is probably 50 years old).

You can find them on Ebay for not too much, also, I think (it's something that they obviously don't make anymore).

4. Geez. They still sell Gillette Blue Blades?
Who knew.
I used one back in college circa 1950.
Bad razor burn and rash.

7. Nah, stainless (I use Wilkinson Sword)
no razor burn or rash..of course I suppose it's partly a matter of being used to it and of changing the blade every few shaves. Do it right (hot water and plenty of it, you want the whiskers good and softened beforehand) and use good shaving soap instead of foam and it gives a very nice shave.

2. Chinese bought Braun. Slower motor. Try Panasonic.
A shaver store repair guy in San Francisco told me about Braun.
He kept my old 'original' Braun running for a few years but finally couldn't get parts.

Miz t. just got me a Panasonic from Target for $70.
More than I 'd like to pay, but she called it a 'late birthday present'.
(My birthday was in August. :eyes:)

I'd gone through a couple of drugstore $10 Norelco knockoffs.
Remington (also Chinese) Norelco lookalikes.
There not even worth 10 bucks.

It's a Panasonic wet/dry MODEL # ES 103.
Very close and comfortable shave dry.
Extreme;t fast, quiet motor.
Haven't tried it wet yet, but that's usually even closer.
No irritation.

5. I still use a Braun; I've had it for about five or six years.
Best electric I've ever used.

8. I saw your post but not until I had already posted.
And since my Braun still works great, I'm not in the market for another electric.

:hi:

10. Norelco is still pretty good.
I think any electric razor is going to have a hard time if you let your beard grow for more than a day. I usually don't shave on the weekends, it gives my face a break from the irritation that can happen, and on Monday mornings I generally shave with a razor, because the electric won't cut it. The rest of the week, the electric is fine.

A weird irony, though -- they require new blades about once a year. Which cost around $40-$45. I just watch for a clearance on razors, and have been able to pick up a new one every year for the past 5-6 years for somewhere between $15 and $30. Haven't ever had to buy replacement blades in all of those years. But alas, I have a razor graveyard under the bathroom sink.

12. I've only ever had luck with Norelco.
The Brauns I've tried wouldn't shave the fuzz off a peach.

13. Braun used to be good, but now Panasonic is the standard!
Panasonic is also cheaper, because you can just clean it with soap and water, instead of the expensive cleaning cartridges you need for the Braun shaver.
