Just returned from the Shrimp Festival. Ask me anything.

Just an aside...IMHO the 'official poster' sux this year.

Runs today through Sunday in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
I've been before a few times, some years ago.
Didn't really want to go, but was talked into it.
Thought maybe on the first day it wouldn't be that bad.
It was.

Huge crowd.
Why aren't these people working on a Thursday?
;-)

Lots of arts and crafts booths.
My favorite was one that had whimsical signs.
The best:
SHOWERS...$1.00
TO WATCH...$2.00
WITH ME...$5.00

A MILE of food booths.
There is some good chow at the festival, but I picked the wrong booth today.
:-(
Ordered calamari and fries.
She dished up a bed of fries and then put an ample serving on fried calamari on them.
Then she wandered around, back in forth in the large booth (about a dozen workers behind the long counter) while my food cooled.
I have no idea what her confusion was.

Eventually she handed the basket to one of the fry cooks and said "REHEAT!"
He dumped the contents into a fry basket for several seconds and then dumped them back into the cardboard basket.
Great.
Now I had a melange of frites and squid.
Make that REFRIED frites and squid.
Extra, EXTRA crispy.
It sucked.
I'm dosing with Tums and Alka-Seltzer.
(Could this me a lethal combination?)

Oh, $15 for the refried meal and $2 for a bottle of H2O.

Outside of that, I had a wonderful time.
:sarcasm:

Oh well, it's a big moneymaker for the town and county (sales taxes, booth fees, etc.), so good luck to them.

Y'all come on down!
:hi:

11. No need for cooking oil.
Practically self-frying.

10. It's the fruit of the sea...
You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich...

12. I used to go to them all
the shrimp festival, all of the arts and crafts festivals, even the Elberta sausage festival. Now I pretty much go to just the Arts and Crafts festival in Fairhope, because you pretty much see the same booths and food booths at all the rest of them.
