Anybody want to chat? I'm bored.
I'm sitting in a boring hotel room, after a boring medical conference. I'm bored, bored, bored...

I'm even drinking a boring whiskey; Black Velvet. Smooth, and it does the job, but boring.

And my drinking thread went nowhere. I never could get the hang of Thursdays...

Talk to me. Post a reply, or PM me.

1. I"m sorry you're bored, my dear Aristus...
I've got to clean up my kitchen from dinner, and then watch some of the Jim Lehrer Newshour with my husband...

Then, I'll be free.

And you'll probably have gone to bed!

I'll look for you later, OK?

2. I'm not going anywhere, CalPeg.
If for no other reason than I need to peer myopically at the keys as I type. Black Velvet packs a punch... :P

3. Are you still awake?
I'm not bored but I am a little buzzed. Had a large Drambuie on the rocks tonight after a campaign committee meeting and I am not sure I can sleep. I have been thinking about my "roots" and thinking about my late parents and wondering who/why/how I am the way I am. And feeling like there is something on the tip of my brain that's important and I don't want to lose it. Sigh.

4. With thoughts like that going on in your brain, I believe you when you say
you are not bored. Tell me more...

And thanks for replying. There's only so much Wikipedia one can surf before thoughts of self-mutilation set in...

15. Too tired to articulate.
And I think that my thoughts right now are like dreams. You try to hold on to them or explain them to someone before they go poof and, sorry too late, they're gone. But that important thing on the tip of my brain is really bugging me. Maybe I will wake in the early hours and find it.

16. Get some rest.
Sounds like you could use it.

I would encourage you to stay awake and chat; but you sound too existentially wiped out to do anything but go to bed...

5. Hey Aristus. I'm a little bored myself. Or avoidant.
Not like I don't have enough to do. But after a long day of doing therapy I'm being a puddle.

What's up with the conference?

8. Well, it's really Continuing Education lectures. Everybody is facing license renewal time.
So lots of boring lectures.

I'm in a so-so motel instead of staying at the resort hosting the conference because my continuing education money is running out...

20. I know that licensing thing. Mine is up in Dec too and I have to have CEUs.
I'm fine for this year; big ethics seminar a couple of weeks back helped.

And I understand about the bucks too.

I'm so embarrassed; I should know by now what it is you're licensed in.
But I don't. Forgive me.

What do you do?

Keep in mind also that I'm drunk as a longshoreman on payday...

Although sometimes I think that might not be a bad idea. LOL!!

26. God bless you.
There is such a need for people like you in my practice, which is Healthcare for the Homeless. As for writers, I think anybody who wants to write should write. You may not get published, and if you get published, you may not get read, but WRITE! An entire nation of people who believe in choosing which authors to support are rooting for you... B-)

28. Thanks. I'm actually pretty well published. PM me if you want to hear about my new novel.
Although at this hour I confess it might be tomorrow before I get to answer.

As to therapy, I know what you mean re need. I'm in private practice now but have worked in the trenches and it's hard, hard, hard. But sometimes amazing things happen. Bless you too, man. Here's to healthy bodies and minds.

We had bad storms w/tornadoes close by earlier this afternoon, so I'm finally getting to the last of the laundry before bed. Playing some words with friends on f/b. :hi:

12. We're fine
They were south of us. We just had bad t-storms with minor flooding, again. We've had some wicked weather here the last month or so. I'm ready for a quiet fall with chilly temps instead of all the rain and storms. I swear my feet are started to be webbed!

13. I am.
It's called "The Last Jew Of Treblinka", by Chil Raichman.

Too depressing to continue; at least, right now. Believe me, I'm the last person you have to encourage to read. I own a personal library of probably 3,000 volumes. I couldn't tell you how many books I've read in my life, but if I had a dollar for every one, I could retire.

I'm away from home in a strange town (and those of you from Cle Elum, Washington, it's not THAT strange, just different...) and I just want a human connection.

And BTW, thank you for replying...

17. We even have toadstools
And that's a funny word that apparently people don't use as much as we did when I was a kid. I think it might be generational maybe? There were several co-workers in their late 20's that swore they'd never heard of a toadstool. Go figure?

19. That's very true
We've had loads of toads and frogs hangin' around, so it only made sense. There is one that has been staying around our brick retaining wall next to the garage. My son called me out there to visit with it the other night. If you scratch the side of his belly, the goofy toad will roll over like a dog!

21. I thought cute performing frogs and toads only existed in fairly tales.
You'll need to post a YouTube video of that one to get me to believe it...

On a program note, the hotel guests in the next room are playing ABBA's "Dancing Queen' on their portable stereo...

Love ABBA, but still...

22. We had one that waved last year
As I live and breathe, we had one last year that would hold up it's front leg and give us a wave when we'd tell it to have a good night. He hung around all summer long. I'll have to get the boy to take a video of this little guy rolling over. They are quite entertaining.

Also stopped in Ellensburg once. I think they used to have a competitive photo show we entered back in our college days.

So, what kind of medical conf?

I learned a few things today that I think will be very useful in clinic.

35. I did. The last one was in San Diego. At a fancy resort.
I used up a great portion of my CE money on that one. I need to have a minimum of 50 CE hours a year in order to renew my license. If it means I have to earn the final 20 in a place like Cle Elum, so be it. I'll always have DU for company... :P

You could be out here in the plains. My brother-in-law calls this area the 'wolves asshole'. He's French & that means something in French culture and I don't think it's a compliment.

Have fun. I'm getting another cup of tea and getting back to actual work. Got a client to deal with in the morning.
