Anyone have one or know anything about them. They seem to range in price from $200 up to $600. I have a bike rack but I find it a real hassle to put on and off (and if I could have a folding bike I would use it more often!!). Or are they a pain in the a** too? I'm also afraid of it coming apart when I am riding on it..... lol
It would just be for easy riding at the beach or some other flat surface, so it doesn't have to have a lot of gears.

1. A good one will hold together pretty well over time. I'd try to get one with 26" wheels, |
|
rather than the common 20" ones. The small ones are more unstable especially at slow speeds and can feel a little wobbly, depending on the length of the steer tube and stem (where the handle bars attach).
They can seem rickety because of all the jointed areas where the folding takes place. It's hard to replicate the solid feel of a normal bike frame.
But they are convenient, so that might make up for any shortcomings.
Hope this helps.

3. You're quite welcome and here's link I just found which has a buyer's guide |
|
as well as a manufacturer's directory. Good luck! http://www.foldingcyclist.com/
