2. "The Blind and the Stars" by Giorgio Cicogna |

who deserves to be better known over here. Italian scientist/poet/sci fi writer who blew himself up at the tender(ized) age of 31 while working on a new impulse engine. Famous for inventing a type of hydrophone, it would seem. Guy got around. Descended from one of the Doges of Venice. (really)
Golden Age sci-fi. Gotta love it.

3. "Cleopatra: A Life" by Stacy Schiff. |

http://www.amazon.com/Cleopatra-Life-Stacy-Schiff/dp/0316001945/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319109320&sr=8-1I expected a basic, dry history/bio that would finally clarify for me who this woman was. To my delight, it is MUCH livelier and more amusing then that. (How often do you laugh out loud while reading a HISTORY book?) Recommended.
