Feel good story: recovered my stolen bicycle yesterday
Edited on Thu Oct-20-11 03:05 PM by noiretextatique
My bicycle was stolen last Sunday. I has to sell my car months ago, so I was really upset...and really pissed.
So I decided to peruse craigslist yesterday to see if the thief was trying to sell it on craigslist. I saw a post with the title: "Found a bike that was probably stolen." So I open the post, and the bike mentioned was the same make and color as mine. I sent the poster an email, and a few hours later, I got a call from the poster.

He told me he saw a strange bike outside his apartment building Sunday morning, but assumed it might be a neighbor's bike. He went to a laundromat a few blocks away and saw a man riding up the street on the same bike he saw earlier...and he was rolling another bike beside him. He said the man looked suspicious, so he shouted to him: "Where did you get that bike?" The man dropped the bike he was rolling and continued riding away on the other bike. The man took the bike home and posted the ad on craigslist, and I saw it, thank goodness.

As it turns out, the bike he dropped was indeed mine. The angel who recovered my bike turned out to be my neighbor who lives two blocks away from me. I live on a busy city street, so I don't know any of my neighbors. But, I got my bike back yesterday.

There are some good, honest people out there, and I was blessed to meet one yesterday...and I got my bike back!!!! :woohoo:

2. Outstanding!
Bike theft is just out of control. I wish Portland had a bike license program, because I'd slap stickers, plates or whatever on every one of mine in an instant, and gladly pay $20 a year each for the privilege.

As it is, if my bike isn't under my butt, it's under lock and key, and I have all the registration information written down.

8. That's pretty cool that the guy took the time to find the owner
of the bike.

My son's bike was stolen years ago and the police found it at a pawn show close to the house. The crackhead that sold it was arrested, but get this, we had to PAY THE PAWN SHOP to get our bike back. A check from the courts came about six months later when the lady paid restitution, so we did get our money back but I was still so mad that I had to pay the pawn shop for my own property.

9. That's great news. Just out of curiosity, was it locked up when it was stolen?
I just ask because I always wonder if bike locks are that effective.
