If you've recently been to an assisted nursing, or skilled nursing facility, have you ever thought.. |
|
..that Don and Betty, Peggy Olson, and Joan Harris are now those old people?
Those little Drapers: they are now close to or older than 50 years old.
(If you don't watch "Mad Men", this doesn't make one bit of sense)

He would be about 74-78 years old now.
Why do you think 50 y/o people are living in assisted living or skilled nursing facilities?
only if they are very physically or mentally disabled with no family or no means to afford in home care would someone of 50 be in those types of facilities . . . right?
on edit: even at 78 there is no reason to think that Don is in a facility unless he has been debilitated in some fashion.

2. I hope you meant 'close to or older than 50 years OLDER' |
|
I think Draper would be about 80-something around now.

4. I meant their kids (who are like 4 and 6 or 5 and 7) would be in their 50s |
|
They establish that Don's in his mid 30s in the first season, which is 1960 - so Don would be 80 something. Similarly, someone posts a copy of Joan's license on the bulletin board showing that she's over 30, so that would put her near 80. Peggy is in her early to mid 20s, so she'd be somewhere in her early 70s.

3. The adults are in their seventies and eighties |
|
Peggy is supposed to be what? 23 in 1960, making her 74. I know plenty of vigorous 74-year-olds.
If Don fought in Korea, he'd have to be at least 79, assuming age 18 by 1950.
The little Drapers are my age. :-)
On the other hand, Mary and Laura from Little House on the Prairie would be about 130.

6. The original Laura (Ingalls Wilder) who wrote the books on which the series was based was born |
|
in 1867, so she'd be over 150 by now!
I know that the saying , "Never trust anyone over 30' was popularized in the 1960s - so anyone even *born* at that time is over 40 by now.
I realized that I was getting over the hill myself when I noticed that *all three* of the leaders of Britain's main political parties are younger than I am!
