Fuck, Yeah! We're famous now, baby!!
ok...well, maybe for Maine, but we made it to BDN!

http://bangordailynews.com/2011/10/17/the-midcoast-beacon/two-brand-new-maine-roller-derby-teams-face-off/

ROCKLAND and PORTLAND — Rockland’s brand-new roller derby league, the Rock Coast Rollers, will face Maine Roller Derby’s newest team, the R.I.P. Tides in both teams’ first competition ever.

Both teams started roller skating in January and are now ready to bout. The teams will face off at Portland’s Happy Wheels at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

“We’re super excited to play what is sure to be the most epic athletic battle in Maine this year,” said Jen “Sookie Stacked” Munson, the president of Rock Coast Rollers’ nonprofit corporation’s board of directors (who also throws a mean hip check). “We’ve been training hard in our tiny gym in Rockland. We’re ready for this fight. And while it’s sure to be an intense competition, Maine Roller Derby has acted as our sister league and we want to make them proud — that’s just how derby is, 49 percent fight, 51 percent skater love.”

Roller derby teams have been popping up around the nation — making derby one of the fastest growing sports in the nation. So far, Maine has two leagues — Rockland’s and Portland’s. That makes the Oct. 29 bout groundbreaking.

1. A friend at work is in a roller derby league
we went and watched her first match but they lost. She says it's OK, she got out all the stress and and aggression from the work week so it was a win in her book.

4. Hey Maine-ah...
My sixteen year old is interested in roller derby.
She's never skated "competitively" and she has
noticed that all of the skaters on our local team
are in their 20's.

Any suggestions for her?
