Why can't I have a pet penguin?
Seriously, They are small enough to fit in my backyard and I'd buy an icemaker that would keep my adorable friend in cold water all the time.

1. Face it - SuperBowl rolls around and you'd be giving those penguin wings the hairy eyeball.

2. Your snow leopard would eat him?
I don't know how big your backyard is, but that might be a problem.

3. Besides, you'd just come home from shopping one day to find them all stoned, drunk, and pole dancing
with Sponge Bob.

5. Your pet kangaroo would not like that at all!
He would probably kick it with his giant kangaroo feet.

11. I really think she needs to go work at a zoo.
That way, she could have access to such critters, without having the expenses it takes to care for them--and get paid for it.

(BTW, Since penguins spend an unusual amount of time confined to
their "nests", scientists think this is their mechanism evolved to help
keep from soiling those nests. Ya learn somethin' new ever' day!!!)

8. Oh sure, they seem like a good idea when they're all small and fuzzy
but when the novelty wears off and you flush them down the toilet so that they end up in the sewers wandering around in the dark until they stumble into some toxic waste and mutate into gigantic killer penguins of death that break out up into the streets and go on a murderous killing rampage laying waste to humanity willy-nilly until the national guard is called in and some ruggedly handsome lieutenant with oddly vacant eyes has to leap into action and take command of a tank that he may or may not be trained to operate while his strikingly beautiful yet vacuous local government official girlfriend races against the clock to assist him and the tank-wielding lieutenant rounds the corner of some famous landmark in your city/town/village and pulls off the one in a million shot to take down the vicious killing machine that your penguin has become, well, what then?

i don't know why, if you had enough money to put in a proper backyard pond/plumbing, you couldn't keep a penguin of the right species -- they don't need cold water, they just need water, pick the right species of penguin, there is one species that is easily kept, is it adelies?

flamingo hotel in las vegas for years had a penguin display, one of the penguins lived 27 years, and the penguins did not die off, they were eventually sold to a zoo because of the cost of keeping them during a recession (they eat fish, a lot of fish, every day, which gets pricey)

some penguins get up to south africa coast etc. and can tolerate quite warm weather, the species kept in vegas was kept outdoors and did just fine, they did have to put out heaters for them to warm themselves at in the winter -- they sure didn't need or want ice cubes!!!

and yes they were just adorable, i am sorry that they're gone, the exhibit is still there and still set up to provide penguin cubbyholes, maybe if they ever get their money situation fixed there in vegas, they will buy more penguins

22. Funny you should mention penguins.
I saw some African penguins today on Boulder Beach here outside of Cape Town. They live in the shrubbery along the beach.

On a sad note, my holiday ends. Tomorrow, I make the eternal flight home. Pics will follow whenever I arrive.

All of Cape Town is gearing up for a Kings of Leon (who?) concert tonight.
