Apparently, I'm running for president. |
|
Like most people, I have about 300 friends on facebook. I tend to post a lot of political videos and articles. Imagine that. Some of my "friends" have revealed themselves to be conservative assholes. I've unfriended some, not for being conservative, but for being assholes. I have one friend who's a self-proclaimed libertarian. He also identifies as a conservative, but I find him to be quite liberal on many issues. He is also smart and interesting and not an asshole. We often disagree. We like each other so we fight with humor and respect. Many times we find common ground. One mutual friend has been amazed by this and has decided we should run for office. She's become obsessed with this idea. My friend and I have been playing along, but it's gotten to the point where many of our friends are having a hard time figuring out if we're serious. Somehow it was decided we should seek Green Party nomination. I said I preferred to run as independent candidates or through the Working Families party, but there were pragmatic issues (Ha!) and since this whole thing is ridiculous, I acquiesced. Our mutual friend has now started a facebook page for us.
This was my statement:
Are we serious? You tell us. What we do know, and what we don’t mean ironically, is that the current system is crap. We also know that our representatives in government are supposed to be representatives. Service in government was meant to be a civic duty shared by citizens who are not career politicians, but who must return to the world they helped to create and live in it. Our elected officials are not only meant to represent us, they are meant to be us. We are us. It’s our turn.
I wonder if there's any way to get the Colbert Super PAC behind us.
Anyway, my strange day is getting stranger.

1. I have the same thing going on with some of my "friends". |
|
I can tolerate and respect those that have their own opposing positions. I have no respect for those that spew the "pre-packaged" Limbaugh/Hannity/Savage rants and buzz words of the day. But when they try to rebut my arguments, its as amusing as watching a Republican debate. Lol

This particular friend almost always ends up agreeing with me, so I still haven't figured out why he says he's a conservative.

3. If you're not serious, then run as a libertarian |
|
That way, you'll siphon off some Republican votes.
If you are serious, then run as a Democrat. "Lefty-sounding" names like Green or Working Families will only siphon off the Democratic votes.
I have no idea how to get PAC support. It probably involves filling out forms and buying drinks.
