Why is the vinyl version of "Cruisin with Ruben and the Jets" so different than the CD?

Why is the vinyl version of "Cruisin with Ruben and the Jets" so different than the CD?
The vinyl version is damn near perfect. Total Zappa over the top, but believable because of the backing band.

The CD sounds like it was recorded by a different band - almost like a cover band...

1. The ways of FZ are mysterious.
He remixed it in 1984 because he didn't like the way it sounded.

He not only overdubbed new bass and drum tracks (Arthur Barrow and Chad Wackerman), he also added new vocal parts to it.

2. You, sir, are 100% correct.
FZ remixed a number of the early Mothers albums for their initial CD release on Ryko back in the 1980s. A lot of Zappa purists howled to high heaven about it. IMO the originals remain both better and definitive.
