Most of the old cool guys are gone.
Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., all the rat pack, gone.
Gary Cooper was a manly man, but a cool guy too.
Cary Grant was the ultimate cool guy.
Gregory Peck was beyond cool.
Cool with a conscience and some SERIOUS principles.
:-)

Jerry Lewis was/is not cool.
OK, he's still amongst the above-ground...physically.
:eyes:
He was funny, in his time.
And he tried so hard to be cool after he split with Dean.
I think he tried to 'be' Dean in his absence.
But he was never cool.
Sorry, Jerry.

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.
For his generation and the ones to follow, he was the way-over-the-top cool.
Like sub-zero.
:scared:

I said 'most of the cool guys' because good ol' Tony Bennet (Anthony Dominick Benedetto) is thankfully, and almost miraculously, still with us. He hit 85 last August.
Guy must be living right.

There are some 'new' cool guys.
George Clooney is definitely cool.
And more in the Gregory Peck mold.
Conscience and a heart.

Johnny Depp is way cool.
Edgy, but cool.

Tommy Lee Jones is borderline cool.
But more edgy.

Adam Sandler is not cool.
Period.
;-)

3. Redford and Newman are still around. Cool guys that fit between those generations. There's also
Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, who also seem to have a conscience and a heart.

Uncool guys also include Pee Wee Herman, Pauly Shore, and Carrot Top. LOL

8. from Huffington Post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/26/dyan-cannon-cary-grant-drug-addiction-lsd-dear-cary_n_981810.html

snips: (emphasis mine)

"Dyan (Cannon) admits do doing drugs with her husband about a dozen times but says it always felt wrong to her -- but she couldn't refuse the dashing Cary Grant.

"He had some very tough things happen to him as a kid. Some very dark secrets that he never really dealt with," Cannon told Jane Hanson and me on the set of "New York Live." "He thought LSD was the gateway to God. He wasn't using it as a party thing; he was using it to get to that inner peace of himself because he was really spiritual, the man was, and he thought when our marriage started to go south that if I took it with him, it would heal us."

"If you think he was charming on-screen, you should have met him-off screen," Cannon says. "I have never ever met a presence like that, or power in his being, and charm, and his tenderness. He was the whole package."

"I think people love him more for it. He was a wonderful man. A precious, wonderful, good, dear man who had demons he didn't deal with," says Cannon. "He thought the LSD would help him and it did, to a certain point, but he didn't deal with the things. He had a tragic childhood."

9. Still doesn't make it right to encourage your wife to take LSD...
Edited on Sat Oct-29-11 02:42 PM by Darth_Kitten
everybody has their demons, but they can't make others suffer for it....also, when they divorced, didn't he have the nerve to accuse HER of being unfit to raise their child?

Still, uncool for the drugs.

10. You're right, of course.
I hadn't heard he'd accused her of being an unfit mother after their divorce. Yeah, if he did, he had some nerve! In the interview Dyan spoke well of him, so who knows.

12. Apparently....
I don't dislike Cary Grant, and I knew he dabbled in LSD, but he was kind of relentless on wanting his wife to always trip with him. Hmmm.

Just one story I read on the internet, there's so much stuff out there. :)

13. Seems like many of the best actors out there
aren't American, and so many of them come from Australia :)

However, there is one very cool American actor I like: Robert Sean Leonard :D

21. I'm guessing you're talking about "missing House" in the current season.
I only recently became "addicted" to that show and am catching up on the cable network "cloo", but have also added it to my Netflix que. When I'm caught up, I'll watch the current season :)

I think I'm going to put Jeeves & Wooster in the que, too. I never watched many of them when they were on way back when, but the clips on YouTube have reminded me of just how great that show was, too :D

24. Harrison Ford is cool.
Besides being a progressive, he is a helicopter pilot who volunteers for rescue missions around Jackson, WY (and who has picked up a few surprised rescuees). And for at least one generation, as Han Solo and Indiana Jones, he DEFINED cool.
