What is the secret to your potato salad?
My brother made one with curry powder, mayo and cumin tonight. He also added barely cooked peas, chopped red pepper and celery. Was great. Crunchy.

9. There was curry powder so it already was yellow. Not a big stretch to green.

2. Pour a little of the pickle juice onto the potatoes while they are still hot
Edited on Sun Oct-30-11 10:15 PM by siligut
I also add mustard, but I think that is part of a standard recipe. Curry is always good, though I haven't tried it with potato salad.

7. It seems like the potatoes really soak up the flavor when they are still hot
Pepper is a good addition too.

•3 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
•2 tablespoons chopped sweet pickle
•2 teaspoons sweet pickle juice

8. You can also replace the potatoes with cauliflower
Keep everything else the same, just replace the potatoes with gently steamed cauliflower. It is a healthier alternative and just as tasty.

12. You will like it, I am pretty sure at least
It is especially good for people with diabetes, because of the way potatoes raise blood sugar.

I make a very traditional New England potato salad in the manner of my Connecticut grandmother.

potatoes cooked in their jackets then peeled -- more potato flavor when cooked in their jackets!

hard-boiled eggs
diced celery
diced onion
diced dill pickles
black olives
mayo
some mustard
dill weed
pinch of sugar
salt & pepper

Of course redskins also make great potato salad and ya don't have to peel them.

20. Real mayo, not Miracle Whip
I add a dab of horseradish mustard, and sometimes some sour cream.

Sometimes I mash the egg yolks and add them to the mayo, and cut up the whites and put them with the dry ingredients.

28. mustard POWDER
just a pinch, depending on size of the salad.Never more than 1/4 teaspoon in a large salad.
Along with a splash of yellow prepared mustard, a bit of dill pickles juice and we use Miracle whip AND regular mayo mixed together...All of the seasonings are mixed with the dressing, then mixed over warm potatoes.
the dried mustard goes a long way but adds depth and body.
I also like to add minced green onions along with chopped regular onions,
and the salad tastes best the next day.

35. This is weird
I had such a taste for homemade potato salad yesterday around noon I literally begged my wife to make some. She hadn't made it for me in over a year. Been so long she nearly forgot how to make it. It came out great too. Don't forget the paprika sprinkled on top.

Then later last night you post this.

Weird.
