Are the Halloweeners coming tonight?
and if so, what time should we plan to hide out in the bedroom with the lights turned out?

We've a dog that barks at every noise outside (and/or front door) and a 7 month old who goes to bed at 7PM. I've already disconnected the doorbell wires months ago.

Are you giving out candy or hiding with the lights turned off?

1. Got some candy to give out, and when it's gone, then the lights go out
and I am hiding in the bedroom.

2. We have a strange custom in our town
siren blows at 6PM and the trick-or-treating begins
siren blows at 7PM and it is all done.

We sit out at the sidewalk so they can grab their goodies and go ==>

5. I like that idea!
I think that's pretty neat - to have a beginning time and an end time. In the past, when I've run out of candy, I've turned the lights off. But around ten o'clock, I like to turn the porch lights back on for security. And I've had older kids come and ring the door bell that late. I like the idea of having a signal to mean that trick-or-treating is over.

24. Fewer drunks on the road on Thursday than the weekend.
I know it was Monday this year, but that serves as a catch all for years when it is Friday or Saturday.

13. They started arriving around 6 p.m.
We had about 20 or so and then I ran out of candy. I gave too much candy to each kid, but I didn't think we would get a lot anyway.
We shut the light out around 7:30.

14. A lot busier than last year.
It's a nice night this year. We'll probably shut off the lights about 8:30 or when the candy runs out.

Plus I gotta run to the grocery store.

16. Got about 30 before we ran out of candy
It was much busier this year than last year... more kids coming in groups. I think the kids from outside of the neighborhood came earlier than the neighborhood kids. I'll have to plan for that next year.

17. I swear, I never know from one year to the next...
Some years I'm swamped (50 plus)...this year (so far) - I think maybe 6!...and it's after 8 o'clock! I have it down to a little science. I have 2 bowls. In one bowl are the goodies - the mini chocolates: Snickers, Butterfingers, Reese's, Kit Kat & 100 Grand Bar which, by the way USED to come 10 to a pack and NOT 8! Then I have a second bowl with the less expensive "filler" candies like bubble gum, sweet tarts & Mary Janes.

In the beginning, I give out a ratio of one chocolate with two fillers. Then, once the chocolate is gone, I just grab a small handful of the fillers until about 10 o'clock or so or until it runs out.

Right now I still have a lot. I dunno what's up? Nice weather. Like I said, I just never know from one year to the next

18. Lights on...
we have trick-or-treating here during the designated hours of 3:30-6:30. We had over 200 kids this year.

19. Only seven here so far.
One beautiful princess, two Spidermen, one unidentifiable superhero, a ninja of some sort, and two kids wearing black clothes and face paint (?).

21. We haven't seen a trick-or-treater here in years.
There are a few kids around here, but their parents would have to drive them from house to house.

22. I never get trick-or-treaters
We live on a dark, tree-lined street with no sidewalks, and the houses are spaced apart. And, it's on a hillside, so long driveways too. One block up, there's plenty of kids, but none on our street.

23. I have the light on and
no one ever shows up. :( There is no sidewalk in front of the houses on this busy street so I don't blame the parents or kids at all.
