Best seats you ever had for a Concert - post details here
Best seats I ever had.

For general admission it was Robert Plant at Hershey Park in 1988. I was able to get to the absolute very front right up next to the stage for the concert. It was funny, I was with one of my best friends (also a Plant fan) and one of her friends. Somehow we managed to get at the front of the gate and the friend of my friend was like "Mind if we go to the restroom first before getting our seats". Both my friend and I were like 'You know where the car is parked - we're going for the front'. The girl was miserable but I was excited beyond belief! And thanks to me being both tall and a cute blonde - I was able to hold Robert Plant's hand while he sang "In the Mood" *** swoon ***.

As for tickets purchased it would be 8th row at Roger Water's "Dark Side of the Moon" tour in Philly. I had actually seen the concert the night before with my friends but we had nosebleed seats. As a lark, the next day I looked to see what tickets were still available and I found a single ticket on the left side available. The price was reasonable, I knew the concert was great so I went by myself and had an amazing view!

1. I've been on the front wall
for The Firm and John Paul Jones. Every Robert Plant show I've been to I was in reserved seats way up.

Those VIP seats (11th row)for the Rush Time Machine tour last year were the best reserved seats I've ever had but I have seen a thousand shows at bars and clubs where I could get on the wall. Saw Blue Oyster Cult a few months ago at the Hard Rock hotel and the stage wasn't even above my waist so those guys were right there. I coulda high fived them all night long except I didn't wanna be the guy who interrupted Buck and Eric playing guitar.

The Firm was actually a coliseum show but we got there wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy early and waited so I could get up front. Jimmy Page was phenomenal and it was worth it for my first time getting to see him live.

Never got to see Led Zep live but I've seen the rest of them many times over the years.

2. Second row, center. Shadowfax at the Tampa Theater. 1985. Yellowjacket opened.
Til this day, best seats and best live performance in my life. I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Here's the venue:

3. lots of General Admission luck and some backstage
I crowd surfed Lollapalooza up to the front for Alice in Chain and Primus.

I saw Tom Morello and Bob Weir (dif shows) at House of Blues NOLA right up front.

Was friendly with several other acts and got really close seats/backstage... Charlie Daniels was friends with my buddy's family, Luke from 2 Live Crew gave us backstage passes, White Zombie (free tix 2x and preshow once), another Tom Morello show we were taking before the show and he had us come back.

I know I'm forgetting a few

Had tenth row Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard

35. I used to drive to Austin in my college days. 78-79.
I saw Taj Mahal, Ain't Misbehavin', John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

Went to college in San Antonio.

All the classical music happened in San Antonio, and the rock n roll was in Austin.

Good days!!!

:D

7. 1st row of the balcony at Whitaker Center for Musical Box recreating "The Lamb".
The balcony only has five rows, and the theater is rather small, so any balcony seat is excellent.

9. That would be a Lemonheads concert, early 90s.
GA show and didn't really matter who was on stage because Johnny Depp was standing right behind me, within inches. It was all I could do to keep from turning around every 5 seconds to look at him. I respectd his space though; only turned around every 30 seconds or so. :D

10. Robin Williams-4th row, aisle seat.
He even touched my knee as he ran up the aisle. Great experience!

As for a musical concert: it is a toss-up between the Kinks at Mershon Auditorium in Columbus or McCartney in Cleveland in 1991-both middle rows on the floor-not bad at all.

11. Showing my age here. Stones, 8th row. I think the tickets were eight bucks
and the first warm up band was some group nobody had ever heard of called the Jefferson Airplane.

Or maybe Hendrix, third row, three dollars per ticket. Original Fillmore

Or maybe the Dead at Ocean Beach. No seating just hang out.

The last concert I ever went to was also the Stones at Altimont.

My first apartment of my own was three blocks from Fillmore West and, frankly, if I never see another rock concert again, it will be too soon.

Edited on Tue Nov-01-11 07:21 AM by AsahinaKimi
I had sat at the barrier at the foot of the stage all day, waiting for her show, and when She came up on stage five hours later, I was nearly crushed by a thousand screaming teens, but I loved being close enough to see her right in front of me!! She ruled the stage..The only thing was..she was rushed off after the concert. There was no chance to snag an autograph.. She had just preformed live, three songs from her brand new USA Album, which I had to buy, of course. She was awesome!

I think the video tapes of her music is still on youtube, unless her record company had it pulled, which is likely. I will never forget it though!

21. Front row center for Rush 30 Year tour in Pittsburgh
Geddy threw one of his dryer shirts to me.

It was one of those life experiences you'll remember when you're 85. The tickets cost a lot of money, but I'm a huge Rush fan so it was completely worth it.

22. Front row for Lewis Black. Was almost kicked in the head by Blessid Union of Souls singer
Blessid Union of Souls was performing at my college and the College Democrats worked "security" for the event. Which meant I got stand between the stage and the barriers for the crowd, making sure no one got crushed.

This also meant that was close enough to the stage, that the lead singer nearly kicked me in the head at one point during the show.

I've been real close at some other concerts, but these are the ones where I was really front & center :headbang:

(Joan's the only one of these who I've been to just 1 of their shows. so far.)

24. In the orchestra pit
to see the "double trio" King Crimson at the State Theater in Minneapolis in 1995. There were three rows of chairs set up inside the balustrade that was in front of the main seating area. I was in the second row and could touch the stage. I was about six feet from Adrian Belew.

29. Backstage (actually watching from rhe wings of the stage) for Elton John
Edited on Tue Nov-01-11 11:43 PM by Kat45
(I was hanging out with someone whose sister was in Elton's band at the time. Steven Tyler was standing next to us watching the show.)

Then last month, I went to the "Hippie Fest" concert (Dave Mason, Rick Derringer, Mark Farner, Felix Cavaliere). The theatre had small tables and chairs up front and our table was right in front of the stage,, close enough to touch it. Funny thing is we had no idea where our seats were until we got there!

Every single live music event I've been to has been general admission with just about everyone standing. And we're probably talking close to 200.

32. Van Halen and Judas Priest
It was the 1984 tour, in 1984, at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland.

General admission concert, and my friend Al and I probably were 4 rows back from the stage, if you could really call it rows. A fucking madhouse is what it was, and awesome. A wave pulsed through the crowd every few minutes.

A few months later, while not a big Judas Priest fan, my friend Al asked if I wanted to go. No, not really. It's general admission? I'M SO THERE! We got to about 2 rows back from the stage. The wave pulsing through the crowd was much more intense than at Van Halen. Had to really struggle to stay on our feet.

34. I saw both those tours
but I had seats lol. In fact, neither of those shows had GA available at my venues - they put rows of seats on the floor.

but I was in the lower bowl for them.

I remember the DLR show mostly because there was a young lady flashing everyone and my (then girlfriend, now wife) kept punching me for looking.

36. Ok - time for the way back machine - I was pretty high at most of these shows...
Woodstock.
Never made it.
I was 15 years old and 30 miles away in upstate New York, and I was babysitting my 10 year sister while everyone was at a funeral in NYC.
I was there in spirit, until my little sister fed about 3lbs of bologna to the dog.

Renaissance - 1978 at Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh. 2nd row center. Close enough to see the sweat dripping into Annie Haslam's cleavage.
Awesome freaking concert.

Two weeks later, same venue, Shadowfax. Three rows behind our previous seats.

Fast forward a few years, New Years Eve 1980 at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver, The J. Giles Band.
Front Row Center, they played for 3 hours and did eight encores.
They blew the roof off of the place.
I could see the spit flying out of Magic Dicks harmonica.

In 1981 driving down Mississippi Blvd in Denver after picking up some pot around 7pm, we drive by the Rainbow Music Hall (again) and the marquee says:
"TONIGHT ONLY @ 10:00 THE GLIMMER TWINS"
I screamed PULL OVER, we're going to this show.

Second Row Center GA, my friend freaking because we were wasting our time seeing some bullshit band, but I knew better.
It was The Stones, rehearsing for the next days show at Folsom Field in Boulder.
Which we also had tickets to.
They were pretty lubed up and proceeded to get greasy for three hours.

Beat Farmers. Too many times. Eventually Country Dick and I were on a first name basis.

I could go on and on, they were all the BEST shows.
Until the next one.
