grab bags? I remember having to fill these bags with an assortment of candy which included those horrible toffee halloween kisses, caramels, chiclets that came two in a box, and mini candy bars. Has this distribution method gone by the wayside?

1. I remember getting grab bags of tiny candy offerings like you mentioned...
.
.
.
...but they were in little clear plastic bags (Saran Wrap?) tied
up with slender ribbons -- nothing store-bought like this.

.
Probably would have been early-to-mid-60's.
.
.
.
Each candy by itself was probably undesirable, but the "combo"
status made them pretty cool as a group.

3. Did anyone ever make you sing before they gave you candy?

5. I remember those.
I trick or treated during the 1950's.

Some of the bags were good, some not so good. I remember bags filled with popcorn and candy corn, too. Back then, we could trust our neighbors. Now, everything has to be wrapped in store wrappers and checked by parents before the kids can eat it. Some places even offer free ex-rays of the candy to make sure no sharp objects have been inserted that can harm the kids.
