Anybody seen Apollo 18? (Major spoiler alert)

Talk about not bothering to deal with loose ends.

In the mode of Paranormal Activity, the movie consists of "Actual found footage" from a secret moon mission.

So because of this, we can assume from the beginning that the astronaut (with cameras and film) returned to Earth.

At the end of the movie, we find that our main characters all die in space, and the cameras never were brought back.

I know it's fiction, but why make a point of telling us about this film being locked away in a vault, then make it impossible at the end?
