What's the best Sit-com / Comedy currently on TV?

I've also been enjoying Two Broke Girls. It's my favorite new show, although Up All Night isn't bad. I also still really like 2 1/2 Men; I was skeptical, but I think it works with Ashton Kutcher.

and would have had to seriously consider it but I ended up voting for Modern Family anyway.

The first 3 or 4 seasons of the Office would give them all a run for their money too.

I like Community a lot but it isn't as consistently funny as 30R or MF.


I like that new show with Zooey Deschanel a lot too but they need a lot more seasons under their belts to get up into MF, 30R territory.

25. I disagree. The sit-com did die, but it has been reborn, IMHO

Shows like Community and Bored to Death are doing new and innovative things. Bored to Death, in particular, has an elegance and wit that were sorely lacking in every show you reference above (except, perhaps, All in the Family.)

And I haven't even mentioned many of the thriving Britcoms, most of which are even better (I'm looking at you Peep Show.)

The half hour sit-com is far from dead.

27. Community is in season three. Airing on NBC.

Bored to Death just began its third season, airing on HBO.

Both get off to somewhat slow starts, in particular Bored to Death. But by mid-season in each, they are throttling very high.

I'd imagine Netflix/Hulu are airing both.

On edit - Peep Show is, IMHO, the best sit-com of the last 10 years. An opinion that is shared by Ricky Gervais, btw. It does have a rat5her unique POV filming style that turns some viewers off. Amazing Britcom, however.

29. Yeah, Bored to Death is quite good

Like most of those on the list in the OP, it's different from the classic 20th-century sitcom, but definitely a good half hour comedy. A couple of other shows on HBO--Hung and How to Make It in America--are also good half hour shows with elements of comedy.

I haven't seen Peep Show, but as far as Britcoms go I really miss The In-Betweeners. Friday Night Dinner also had some great moments.

30. You might want to check out the new series, Fresh Meat.

It's written by the creators of Peep Show and one of the ensemble members is Joe Thomas, who played Simon on The Inbetweeners (Which I miss as well.)

It's not strictly a half hour sitcom, more of a comedy/drama, although it leans FAR more in the comedy direction. I've found it to be excellent.

Another Britcom to keep an on if you liked the Inbetweeners would be Chickens. They aired the pilot as a one off showcase a couple months back. It is written by and stars Simon Bird (Will) and Joe Thomas (Simon) from the Inbetweeners. It's set in World War I Britain, and absolutely has the same comedy aesthetic as the Inbetweeners.

I haven't heard if it's been picked up as a full series yet though.

I liked Friday Night Dinner as well. I wonder if it scored a second series?

The first season of the Inbetweeners about did me in. I would watch episodes on OnDemand late at night and worry I was going to wake the whole apartment complex up with explosive laughter.

just got into it a few weeks back. But, hands down the best show on TV is Son's of Anarchy...check it out, tuesdays on FX. American Horror Story is decent as well
