Leonardo DiCaprio has had a very interesting film career
I think he bites off more than he can chew sometimes, and he may not be old enough to play some of the characters he takes on, and the deal about the troubled genius who's guilt ridden over the way he cost his wife's death is a bit overdone. But still, pretty gutsy choices.

1. I assume you're talking about the Hoover biopic.
That's a tough role to be sure, but assuming they start at the time Hoover was appointed to head the FBI (He was in his early mid-20s) and cover his entire career, you've got a narrow age window of actors to work with there. You can't be much younger than Leo and play that role, the aging makeup or CGI will look funny turning a 25 year old into a 70 year old. You can't be much older than Leo and still pass for 24.

I'm rarely going to criticize an actor for taking roles that challenge them as an actor. I think he sometimes chooses bad roles for himself though.

3. I'm thinking about both the Hoover and the Howard Hughes biopics
Again, really admire his ambition. He's not playing it safe. But I'm just not quite buying him after the age of 45 in most of these roles he's taking on. I'm also thinking of Shutter Island and Inception. He's good at playing the wounded part of the wounded tough guy. But in both roles I just didn't buy the tough guy part of the character. He looks like a college kid playing King Lear. I think he's taking on a lot of these roles 10 years too soon.

2. I think his role in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" was easily his best. Depp was good too.

5. It was a major plot point in both "Inception" and "Shutter Island"
It's also part of the closing pathos in "Revolutionary Road" but I don't wanna do any spoilers here.
