Poll question: Favorite obsolete technology
Yes, I'll include an "Other" choice.

Disclaimer: I have a LaserDisc player and a turntable with a strobe for timing hooked up to my stereo along with two VCRs, two DVD players, a dual deck cassette deck, and a 6-disc CD changer with a tuner, amp, and equalizer.

I also have working equipment for everything listed below except for reel-to-reel and 9-track.

1. My high-end turntable is hooked up to the rest of the high-end AV stack
in the living room. We listen to vinyls about twice a month, if not more - all albums we haven't been able to find in any other format, and besides, why even look? :)

3. Hell, even the ones I have on CD I still listen to on vinyl - there's just something more genuine.
But to be honest, I do have a shitload of albums that will NEVER find their way into electronic form unless I do it myself.

8. They had to be careful about poking someone's eye out
On the plus side, they could have both hands occupied and still dial a rotary phone.

18. Vacuum tubes sound better than transistors,
just as vinyl sounds better than CDs
and silver wire sounds better than copper.

Ask anybody who sells overpriced audio equipment.

13. VHS tapes.
I like recording things to watch later, then record over them----and over them and over them.

But this was a tough call, I also mourn for rotary phones (I liked the ring much better and fewer people dialed wrong numbers) and vinyl records.

I hate that I can't keep the stuff I record on the DirecTV recorder. I have quite a collection of VHS tapes!

14. Woodstove.
There's an atavistic pleasure in it. Comingling with the ancestors around a wood fire. Practicing some simple musical instrument too. And staying warm.

I even have Fantasia on LaserDisc, the one example of that format that I own. I just don't have a player in order to watch it :P

Then there are stone axes.

Wax cylinders for audio recording...no one needs clear sound playback especially for all that noise out there today
