Should I get a Blu-Ray player? |
|
I recently bought a new DVD player/stereo system from RCA.
I noticed in the Shopko flyer a Blu-Ray player for $90.
Really, what are the advantages?
(Oh, I do have a wide-screen TV.)

2. I have two of them and hardly use them anymore |

I really believe disks will soon go the way of the betamax. If you want HD content and you don't have a good bandwidth to the internet, you may want to go with one.
If you have good internet bandwidth I think something like a media player with access to plenty of streaming video sources is a better way to go.

3. I say no because there is nothing wrong with DVD. |
|
They don't produce fuzzy images or wear out or lose their sound quality over time like VHS does.

I've noticed is picture quality, if you have the HD tv, and all of that jazz. The clarity imo is very apparent/noticeable. The prices of most Blu-rays nowadays are pretty close to regular dvd's. Most blu-ray players say they upgrade regular dvd quality, but in my experience with two separate blu ray players, regular dvd's were a pain to work right(player's freezing, jumping around to different scenes, although dvd had no scratches). I had a cheapo Vizio Blu ray player, and a 130 dollar LG and both were a huge pita when dealing with regular dvds, but with blu ray they played fine. I traded my blu ray players back, and stayed with the Playstation 3 which has worked like a clock, with no hiccups whatsoever. Both, blu ray/regular dvd's work very well with my PS3, its a spendy gadget though.
Another advantage of blu ray is the extra's that are included, like demo games, or trailers, also you can get netflix or a good handful of other streaming entertainment options. I currently buy the blu ray/dvd combo packs, cause most of the time, the regular dvd is 20, the edition I get is 25...plus none of my family have upgraded, so I keep dvd's so they can borrow them whenever they please.
