Glen Campbell. Wow. The man can STILL play!
And sing, too. Great live recording of Galveston. Enjoy.

Tears me up that Glen has Alzheimer's. What a player.

Glen Campbell Bids Farewell to Kentucky with Concert

Glen Campbell played his last show in Kentucky at the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center.

You could say it was a bittersweet goodbye on Saturday night in Renfro Valley, Kentucky, as Glen Campbell performed. Battling Alzheimers, the country music legend performed his last show in Kentucky as part of his Farewell Tour. Despite having to read the lyrics from the monitors, Glen Campbell showed he still has the ability to entertain. His soulful heartfelt vocals down to his guitar playing made him feel right at home.

Joining on stage with Glen Campbell were his children. His daughter and son would join for a bluegrass style duet. Afterwards, Glen would join his daughter, Ashley, who had the looks of Carrie Underwood but could play the fire out of a banjo. They would play a firey version of "Dueling Banjos".

In between songs, Campbell would tell little snippets of jokes, but most of all, he showed excitement for being there - for being able to still play. He didn't let something overcome him and he let his guitar do the talking.

After playing "Rhinestone Cowboy" with a five minute standing ovation, Glen Campbell appeared back on stage for an encore. In a haunting and touching tribute with the song, "A Better Place," those in the audience heard the story of a man who has done all he could do in his life and he is happy. He is proud of what he has achieved and he knows his time has almost come to say goodbye.

7. Wish I could've been there!
I regret that I never got to see Glen live. Helluva guitar player, singer, and entertainer.

8. I saw him at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, 1970, when he had his TV show...
...right at the peak of his fame. That means it was five years before "Rhinestone Cowboy," but all of the initial hits..."Gentle On My Mind," "Galveston," and my all-time favorite, "Wichita Lineman"...were played to perfection.

Campbell set a standard in his shows (at least at that time) for performing the song exactly as it sounded on the records...no surprises, no improvs. He did establish a rapport with the audience, and there was some kidding around before and after songs, but the performances themselves were note-for-note faithful to the albums/singles. The Eagles would later follow suit in their live shows.

He looked exactly as he did on the TV...hair helmet and all. During the entire show I don't believe a single strand of hair fell out of place.

CMA Awards to Feature Glen Campbell Tribute

As Glen Campbell bids farewell to country music fans with his tour, it has been announced he will be honored in a special tribute during the Country Music Association Awards. He recently played his last performance in Kentucky at the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center.

Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban will team up to pay tribute to Glen Campbell at next month's Country Music Association Awards, which will be televised. All three are by far the top guitarists in country music. They will play a tribute in honor of Glen Campbell. Campbell is not only a fine guitar player, but also a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and 1968 CMA Entertainer of the Year.

Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease earlier this year. His last studio album, "Ghost On the Canvas" was released in August.

5. "Galveston"--one of the greatest albums of all time.
I hate that he's so ill, but I'm glad he's able to go out enjoying his music.

6. He was on my flight once. Strung. Out.
Still in his coke phase back then.
Looked like death warmed over.
Thin as a rail.

I think Tanya Tucker was with him and he was on his way to rehab somewhere.

Good for him for pulling out of the death spiral.
Always liked him and his music.

That's maybe the best I've ever heard bagpipes sound.
