Santorini or Barcelona?
Lost my job of 18yrs been out of work for 6 months and since I have time on my hands and access to my 401k I'm thinking travel
before I get back to work, I'm far from wealthy but I'm thinking I should use this time to do something I've never done before
and I can make back the money once I get a job (hoping)
Any input would be appreciated except negative comments, again I'm not wealthy but I saved.

Thanks in advance

2. I second that!
The island of Thira disintegrated and gave us the legend of Atlantis' destruction :D

7. I have been to Barcelona.. have to admit I was impressed..
especially since the town near by is Badalona, where Spanish swords were made. Awesome place.

5. Daughter recenty returned from Santorini honeymoom; loved it.
Also spent few days in Rome before and after Greece, where she'd lived.
We've been to Barcelona, years ago.
I'd suggest the City, for variety of things to do, but you should think about the type of vacation you'd like: Beach w some history, caldera, food, or great city w plenty of walking, arty features, architecture, food.

AND stabilty: Greece still difficult, but daughter had no problems in Santorini; overnight in Athens, another thing, for safety.

:hi:

8. Barcelona, Santorini, Rome, Sorrento, Nice Taromina....
Love them all. Love. Seriously would marry any one of them if it were legal (and Rick Santorum's head just exploded.) I think I had a past life on the Med, maybe as a Phonecian sailor BCE, and that part of the world is in my blood. It's all beautiful, Demonaut: and don't forget Dubronik, Croatia. Cheaper than Italy or Spain, and just as historical. (Okay, technically it's the Adriatic, but it's all the same big sea.)

Happy trails, wherever you go!

I know that wasn't an option, but I thought I would add my $0.02 anyway.

Go for the Arctic Foxes, they are really cute.

11. Santorini
Was there 30 years ago. We slept on the beach under the trees. So I guess you could say it was cheap. They probably don't allow that anymore.

Haven't been to Barcelona yet. I considered it for this year's trip (went to South Africa instead). Hostel dorms were expensive. If you're comparing costs of travel, go to one of the hostel sites, Hostelworld or HostelBookers (or whatever) and compare dorm bed costs in different destinations.

12. as it's off season I've found a place in Oia thats only 329 for 6 days
one of the lowest prices for the location on the island, the ticket from Denver to Santorini was only $289, yes Us, taxes and fees tripled that though

Hopefully, you won't be in the air and cooling your heels in airports for 30 hours.

16. What do you want to do?
First off, you've picked a couple of my favorite cities in the world and I firmly believe that you can't go wrong with either. That said, they are very different.

If you are looking to completely chill and enjoy the beauty around you, then Santorini.

If you want to explore an incredibly diverse city, and love architecture, then Barcelona.

Santorini is made for walking and Barcelona has great public transportation, so you're set in either city. As long as you avoid chain and super posh hotels, you shouldn't have trouble finding a simple, clean room. The food is amazing in both places!

Have a wonderful time!
