Yup, 40 years ago "Led Zeppelin IV" with "Stairway To Heaven" on it was released.

3. A truly dreadful song on every measurable level! |
|
I got the album in 1980 for my 13th birthday. The first thing I did was take a steak knife to that song so as not to defile my turntable with such dreck.
"When the Levee Breaks" is still my favorite Zeppelin track.

4. I'll forever associate it with the assholes in the dormroom next door. |
|
Apparently one of them was packed off to college with a $500 stereo and one goddamn record.

It took me 40 years to be able to afford that (plus winning a gift certificate in a drawing).

8. A truly remarkable album all the way through. |
|
Unfortunate that Stairway turned into the popular, over-played monster it did because it is a good song.
I wish Battle of Evermore had been the one to catch on. Or as Plant once said, Kashmir. But that's not on this album.

9. "The Battle of Evermore" floored me back in 1972 |
|
I noticed a credit to Sandy Denny for vocals on that song and that sent me off looking for this woman with the bewitching voice of whom I had not heard. Finding her, and Fairport Convention, led me down a path that ended up with me owning something like 40 Fairport LPs and CDs, and Sandy's whole catalog.
