Anyone know anything about World Vision International? |
|
I got a catalog in the mail about giving gifts like goats and chickens to impoverished people around the world and it seems like a cool thing but I don't know if it's a scam. And of it is a scam, does anyone know of alternative organizations that do similar work?

1. They're Fundies. Beware! |
|
I gave them money in 1984 for Ethiopian Famine victims, cuz this was before Live Aid and they were the only ones at the time who were trying to bring awareness to the situation. Well, they took our money, they inundated us with VERY expensive mailings and Jesus slogans begging for more. It took a long time to get them to stop, and thank God there was no internet, becuz I'm sure I'd've seen all sorts of Xian marketing in my email and snail mail box.
I was pretty disgusted with the whole process, and sorry I gave 'em my bux. But who knows, that was a long time ago, maybe things have changed...?

3. As a non-religious type myself, that does worry me. |

I don't mind contributing to a religious-based org if they're doing good work but their primary goal has to be helping people and not 'spreading the word.'
