When dealing with AT&T U-verse tech support, be persistent...
Our system went down this morning -- land-line, internet, television. Tech support told Mrs Auggie we needed a new modem and it would ship in 2 to 3 days...no other option. We run two home businesses here that depend on being wired-in. No way I could wait 2 to 3 days.

I called and got another technician who said the same thing, except that he could send a tech guy to the house today for $149.00! So when I said that if that was the best they could offer and I was going back to Comcast, the tech guy said maybe he could fix it right now. WTF? So he asked me a few questions, pushed a few buttons on his end, and everything instantly worked.

Lesson learned -- just because one "tech expert" says it's one way doesn't mean that it is. And the squeaky wheel really does get greased sometimes.

2. Yawp. I had issues with a third party router on my dsl service
I needed to do a reset on my router and had to have my id and password for my dsl service to finish the reset. My account login info was in a box I couldn't get to, so I called them to get the password. I was given the info and it didn't work, so I called back and got another person who gave me a totally different answer for what my password was. Both times they tried to get me to sign up for an extra service because of the third party router, so they could "fix it" for me.

They used to be really good about service, but I notice it's about pushing more sales these days.

3. When AT&T was still SBC, I had DSL via a 2-Wire router...
...the router worked well but it was only after some extensive Googling that I discovered the well-documented issue with the power source (they die after a while).

The power source cost $20, but you couldn't buy them in the AT&T store...you had to order online. Shipping? Another $20!

But I got it, and it worked, and fortunately I had my old router to use as a backup until it arrived. But i hear ya...I could not go for 2 to 3 days without DSL. It would shut my business down during that time.
