Ridley Scott's "Prometheus": The kind-of, sort-of, not-really-but-in-fact-is prequel to "Alien"
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 07:05 PM by Downtown Hound
So, the story of Alien 5 has been all over the map. At first it was announced that Ridley Scott would return to th Alien franchise for a prequel, showing the events leading up to his now legendary 1979 sci-fi horror epic. Then it was announced that his new movie, now named "Prometheus" had evolved into something completley different and would stand on its own, having no relation at all the the Alien movies.

Now it has been announced, by none other than Scott himself, that Prometheus is in fact its own movie, but that the last eight minutes of it will "evolve into a pretty good DNA of the Alien one."

Prometheus promises to pose challenging questions about who we are as a species and where we are going. It's name is inspired by the greek hero that stole fire from the Gods and was chained to a rock for eternity while a bird pecked his liver out day after day.

Sounds interesting. I must admit, I'm intrigued. And I never thought I would be about this franchise again because it's been so beaten down by lame sequels and spin-offs. But an intellignet sci-fi horror flick that stands on its own with something new and yet gives us insight into something we've all come to know and love, and all with a philosophical bent?

Sign me up. Can't wait for this one.

1. Yeah but... He is also now talking about a Blade Runner sequel

Just kind of gives me a bad feeling with him revisting things like this.

2. Is it just me, or has Ridley Scott really sort of sucked for the past three decades?

4. Except Thelma and Louise which kinda rocked.
Given the history of the Alien franchise, there will 8 more false starts and re-writes and they will settle on a script about where Ripley is rebuilt as robot and trapped in a shopping mall with a Xenomorph infected rat.

5. Loads of Money Makes You Lose Your Creative Edge
When you have money, you become sort of disconnected from real life. You live in large homes, have servants, go to fancy parties, etc. You lose the grit that drove you.
