1. It is EXCELLENT... EXCELLENT!!!!
.
.
.
It's raw and downright BRUTAL... though there are some surprisingly
tender moments.
.
.
.
Get ready to hear the word, "cocksucker" 2-to-3 times per sentence.
.
.
.
It's my favorite ever Western series -- and the soundtrack is really
incredible -- raw old Americana for the most part -- the Music Director
was very impressive indeed.
.
.
.
The doctor is Brad Dourif, one of my favorite character actors (his
first role netted him an Oscar for his portrayal of Billy Bibbitt in
"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

2. The best series to watch if you want to learn how to properly swear...
It's gritty, it's almost real (The primary villian, Swearingen was not so poetic or smart in real life) and based on the history of the real Deadwood. First two seasons are great TV, almost Shakespearian. They rushed it badly the last season; HBO cancelled the season about a year and a half early.
It's also a source for some great quotes.

Al Swearengen: In life you have to do a lot of things you don't fucking want to do. Many times, that's what the fuck life is... one vile fucking task after another.

Haele

3. And Ian McShane is about as different from the character he played in
"Lovejoy" as you could imagine.

Until someone has the balls to try to make a movie out of Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" this series is the closest you're going to get to the feel of that masterpiece.

5. What they said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
First two seasons were exceptional. Someone mentioned Shakespeare and I concur: the dialog is gritty profanity-laced Shakespearean. Aside from Billy Babbitt, Brad Dourif never had such a fantastic role, same for William Sanderson ("Hi, I'm Larry; this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl."). In fact, same for Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant and dare I even say Powers Boothe? Lots of finest performances for many actors, imho.

Course, the swearing is pretty intense and you gotta expect your language is going to involuntarily change a little bit. Forwarn your peeps that you might accidentally call them cocksuckers but not to take offense :D

8. Superb!
A great serial. I wish they would have wound it up properly at the end of Season 3. Somewhere I read they wanted to do a movie or two to conclude the narrative properly. Don't hold your breath though.

9. I floooooove Deadwood. I am the world's most bitter Deadwood fan.
Just don't look for, you know, a satisfying resolution to the story. (Goddamn HBO.)

10. I thought one of the most interesting developments that I would've LOVED to have seen more on...
.
.
.
... was the growing relationship between the doctor and Jewel.
.
.
.

Jewel: Say 'I'm as nimble as a forest creature.'
Doc Cochran: You're as nimble as a forest creature.
Jewel: No, say it about yourself.
Doc Cochran: I'm as nimble as a forest creature.

12. Worth the time.
But don't rush through it. Watch it like a series. Once a week. Rewatch mid-week. You are gonna find you missed a bit of dialog, misunderstood and intent, something. It is dense and rich and profane and violent and horrific and wonderful.
