Who remembers when you'd check the bottom of your Coke Bottle?

The location of the bottler was embossed on the bottom of the bottle.
As kids we'd check the bottom.
If your bottle was from the farthest away, the other guys had to buy your Coke.

1. Never did that... but sounds like a pretty cool "kid tradition".

I check labels and expiration dates. Lately, I've seen BOTH my
two usual major supermarkets put stuff on special sale and found
the items to be expired -- I think one of the items expired in
MAY!!!

I thought they couldn't do this (although I was appalled to go to
a "discount grocery store" where they sold nothing but damaged
and expired goods -- apparently legally).

2. And I also remember saving those glass bottles and turning them in for cash.

3. 2 cents a bottle IIRC.

I worked at a grocery store in my early-to-middle teens.
There was an old guy who brought in a wheelbarrow full of deposit bottles every Saturday.
It became my job to count them and pay him for them.
I think that was his grocery money for the week.
