Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 07:13 PM by pink-o

http://youtu.be/oJYRtOPUonA

...I have it in my shuffle, and when I'm running the trail, and it comes into my ears, I just get sooooo light on my feet I can run forever.

Also, someone mentioned "Into the Mystic" by Van the Man. Love it. Love it. Every time I'm biking on the GG bridge and hear the foghorns, it plays in my head, and I well up with tears.

And OF COURSE I love "Imagine" and "Across the Universe". Funny, I'm a boomer but I really enjoy listening to newer stuff on Alt Rock radio. Yet, the songs that come to mind when I respond to this thread are all from the 70s. Guess I'm old after all--or perhaps the music is forever young...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pev0dINRaok

Staring at the sea
Will she come?
Is there hope for me
After all is said and done
Anything at any price
All of this for you
All the spoils of a wasted life
All of this for you
All the world has closed her eyes
Tired faith all worn and thin
For all we could have done
And all that could have been

Ocean pulls me close
And whispers in my ear
The destiny I've chose
All becoming clear
The currents have their say
The time is drawing near
Washes me away
Makes me disappear

And I descend from grace
In arms of undertow
I will take my place
In the great below

I can still feel you
Even so far away

What's coming through is alive.
What's holding up is a mirror.
But what's singing songs is a snake
Looking to turn my piss to wine.

They're both totally void of hate,
But killing me just the same.

The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have done
My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.
Considerately.

Venomous voice, tempts me,
Drains me, bleeds me,
Leaves me cracked and empty.
Drags me down like some sweet gravity.

The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been.
My blood before me begs me
Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again now.
And I feel this coming over like a storm again now.

I am too connected to you
To slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,

Considerately killing me.
Considerately killing me.
Considerately killing me.
Considerately killing me.
Without the skin here,
Beneath the storm.
Under these tears now,
The walls came down.

And as the snake is drowned
And as I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of those times.

I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down
And as I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die.
It's all right.
(I don't mind)
I don't mind.
I don't mind.
I don't mind.

I am too connected to you
To slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,

Considerately killing me.
Considerately killing me and
Considerately killing me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l93K93-Cjs

We barely remember who or what came
before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now.
Hold on, stay inside
This holy reality, this holy experience.
Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. It's my
reminder here that I am not
alone in
This body, this body holding me, we are
eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Alive, I'm

In this holy reality, in this holy
experience. Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. It's my

reminder here that I am not
alone in
This body, this body holding me, we are
eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Twirling round with this familiar
parabole.
Spinning, weaving round each new
experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and
celebrate this chance to be alive and
breathing, this chance to be alive and
breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my
own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. we
are eternal.
all this pain is an illusion.

Sorry, I could do this forever. I'll stop now.

51. I'm afraid I'm not much help
because my tastes in music are probably a bit dreary if you're collecting suggestions to listen to everyday or for a playlist.

My absolute favorite piece of music is "The Impossible Dream." Not exactly the stuff of pop music.

My top 10 doesn't really include a lot of "easy listening" style, unless you like New Age, or Folk, or such. John Denver's "Poems, Prayers and Promises" is in my top 10, as well as Engelbert singing "I Want to Wake Up with You," as well as "Love is All."

Then there is David Lanz, a composer and pianist, with several of his songs. All of them New Age instrumentals.

Some pop does come up, though in today's world, a little bland in some cases--like Tears for Fears, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," "Mad World," The Thonpson Twins "Hold Me Now," Annie Lennox "No More I Love Yous." Duran Duran "Ordinary World," Sting "Fields of Gold," and other somewhat ballad sounding choices.

For pop artists, I suppose I could recommend as well, Huey Lewis, Paul McCartney, Human League, Phil Collins or Billy Joel.

Like I said, a more "ho hum" collection of favorites.

52. I thought I'd throw this one in as a song I love to listen
to because it's got such high energy, that it revs me up so much. I know only a few words from it, because it's in Hindu, I believe, but for a lift, it can't be beat.

65. Thanks for the link!
It's amazing how these songs pump you with high energy. There might be a lot of energy in some songs we hear on a daily basis, but there is something elemental in these foreign songs, that kind of sets your inner self on fire, and makes you want to get off your butt and move. There's a rhythm in them which can't always be found elsewhere.

But, he did leave many beautiful songs behind, so I just try to appreciate what he/they left us.

70. I'd say Buckley's was a little sadder, because he only completed one proper album.
And it's probably one of the greatest releases of the last 20+ years. You could easily argue that the guy was the most talented singer-songwriter of his generation, and all he left behind was one LP and a bunch of half-finished demos.

67. " Dreaming "....Blondie...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOnv8lXDzhg

The lyrics are a huge part of it:
"Dreaming"

When I met you in the restaurant
You could tell I was no debutante
You asked me what's my pleasure
A movie or a measure?
I'll have a cup of tea and tell you of my dreaming
Dreaming is free
I don't want to live on charity
Pleasure's real or is it fantasy?
Reel to reel is living rarity
People stop and stare at me We just walk on by - we just keep on dreaming
Feet feet, walking a two mile
Meet meet, meet me at the turnstile
I never met him, I'll never forget him

Dream dream, even for a little while
Dream dream, filling up an idle hour
Fade away, radiate

I sit by and watch the river flow
I sit by and watch the traffic go
Imagine something of your very own
Something you can have and hold

I'd build a road in gold just to have some dreaming
Dreaming is free
Dreaming
Dreaming is free.....

The Great Clem Burke of Blondie was the only drummer who truly could have taken the place of Keith Moon in The Who when Keith died. One of Blondie's finest hours, and they had a bunch of them.

69. Jesus and Mary Chain - "Something I Can't Have"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_uDYocGWMo

I could pick from so many of these guys' songs, but this one epitomizes the upbeat music/downbeat lyrics dichotomy of a lot of their stuff. "You're in my house, you're in my face, you make me hate the human race" has got to be one of my favorite opening lines ever.

78. "The Dark and the Rolling Sea"
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 04:25 PM by hifiguy
by Al Stewart off his great "Modern Times" album. From 1975 IIRC.

"Ashes are Burning" from the Renaissance album of the same name. 1973, I believe. Annie Haslam's incredible soprano is mind-boggling.

The Dark and the Rolling Sea

Oh you slipped away from the harbour side
In the morning bright and clear
And your sails were filled with the rising wind
And you laughed for all to hear
But you never glanced at the ragged dance
Of your lovers on the quay
Don't call on them when the winds rise high
On the dark and the rolling sea

Oh you set your course for the furthest shores
And you never once looked back
And the flag you flew was a pirate cross
On a field of velvet black
And those landsmen who you but lately knew
Were left stranded on the lea
Don't call on them when the storm clouds rise
On the dark and the rolling sea

Oh I have no need of a chart or creed
You told your waiting crew
For the winds of chance, they will bear us straight
And you spoke as though you knew
So you paid no mind to the warning signs
As you gave your words so free
Don't change your tack when the timbers crack
On the dark and the rolling sea

Now the thunder rails in the great mainsails
And the stars desert the skies
And the rigging strains as the hands of rain
Reach down to wash your eyes
And your oarsmen stands with his knife in hand
And his eyes spell mutiny
Don't call my name when your ship goes down
On the dark and the rolling sea
