life insurance, though, so my family can survive if I don't. (But if I live, I screw us all over.)

I hope you can afford to get those symptoms checked out and that it's really nothing to worry about. I know that you don't have health insurance, but please find a clinic that will see you for cheap even if it means driving to one of the small cities in your part of the state.
