Facebook finds cause of porn, violent images in NewsFeeds
November 15, 2011 | 1:21 pm

If you checked your Facebook NewsFeed on Monday night and found a dirty Photoshopped picture of Justin Bieber or an image of a beaten and bloodied dog, you are not alone.

Facebook users report that for the last 24 hours the social networking site has been infested with a mix of hardcore pornographic images, doctored pictures of celebrities in sexual situations, photos of extreme violence, and yes, a picture of a beaten dog.

Now, Facebook says it has identified the problem -- but not the culprit.

-----

The images were so graphic that it caused some people to say they were going to quit Facebook.

1. I saw this on the news just now.
I think I will hold off on checking in over there. I don't have eleventy kazillion 'friends', so maybe mine is okay - who knows.
Crap like this pisses me off.

I got 2 emails from paypal saying that there was something wrong with my account, put info here so you can get back in. I don't have a paypal account, never have, never will! Big time phishing scam.

2. the problem is that phishing has gotten bad on facebook

and many people who don't really know how to use a computer otherwise, or not much about them, will still use facebook and fall prey to the scoundrels.

I have only had two of my facebook friends start posting weird stuff, and they are both older people.

One of them was kind of funny, my Aunt who is around 75 and probably weighs all of 100 pounds suddenly started posted on everybody's page a message along the lines of "I can't believe I lost 40 pounds using a simple trick, click this to find out how" and another family member responded with, "So how much do you weigh now, Aunt Betty? 60??"

She of course had been "hacked", or rather had given up her password to phishers. It doesn't appear they wanted to do any damage other than post links about a weight loss product to all of her friends.

oh edit: oh, and facebook looks fine to me today. The only pictures I see posted by my friends are of babies and doggies and kitties. So I guess none of my friends have gotten it this go around.

3. I don't 'like' a bunch of stuff.
That keeps the phishing and other bs away.
