live a few months in Paris, a few months in Italy, and a few months in the Seychelles. It doesn't even matter if this dream doesn't come true...just dreaming it is enough of a pleasure to make it worthwhile. Course I'd donate some money to charity too.

1. Set aside some to help the sons start their businesses and quit worrying. |
|
I don't worry too much anyway but the spectre of old age is a mean one. I might travel a bit too, but I can do that now with a little frugality.

2. Set myself up so I wouldn't have to worry about a house again. |
|
Buy a modest house in the town and school district I'm currently living in. 1,500 square feet or so. That would take about half of it, maybe a bit more.
I'd make sure the house was heavily insulated, install new windows, and high-efficiency solar panels and maybe a solar water heater. And of course, I'd have to furnish it.
Now I have a house that is extremely energy efficient, which will save me tons of money in the 50 years or so I expect to live in it.
With that load off my mind, hopefully forever, I'd put about $100,000 into a college fund for my kid, and save the rest for college, taxes, and expenses.
Whatever I had left after finishing my degree and getting a job, I'd roll most of it over into a retirement fund of some sort because, hey, I have to get started at some point.
With no mortgage, I'd give generously to charitable causes every pay period.

3. Build a house, a green one... |
|
I would like to hire an architect to design the most energy efficient house while using the greenest, least toxic materials. Maybe take a year off and finish my degree while helping mom and significant other with their businesses, college fund for the kiddo, better vehicle, pay off significant other's business loans, build a workshop (really just a pole barn with 220), Health insurance for brother, sis-in-law, dad and step-mom, Depending on what was left, there are a few other family members I would like to help out and maybe buy a downtown building and rehab it. I would also like to plant a small orchard and build some better raised beds. (but maybe with the money I could put in a proper drainage system in the field behind us and we wouldn't need the raised beds as much)

4. Similar desires, would try to create a sustainable place for a number of people. |

I have the knowledge, but not the money. I'd like to get as far off the system of control as possible and take as many as I could with me.

5. Give about a third of it to charities - homeless shelter, battered womens' shelter, food bank,... |
|
I suppose I'd probably invest the rest to get interest both to live on and to continue donating.

9. That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time? |
|
Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.
Well, not all chicks.
Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.

in need.
My favorite fantasy when I imagine winning a million dollars is buying a lot of land in the country and turning it into a refuge for dogs and cats and other domesticated animals.

pay somebody to redo and install some new fencing, buy a decent vehicle or two (used is fine), maybe a couple good horses, fix the house build a real pool, travel for a month or so to Australia, then whatever is left could be banked/invested to piddle and give away as I felt like.

15. Start a progressive think tank |

One million would actually be kind of a shoestring budget; it would generate interest income of around 50 grand a year, enough to support me but not really to bring on any fellows or anything.
