Notice how Elaine got really unlikable in the last few years of Seinfeld? |
|
Elaine was one of the chief draws to Seinfeld: so quirky, so eminently adorable. But in the closing years of the show, she turned into a bitter, sniping harpy.
Anyone else notice this character shift?

I never watched Seinfeld enough late in the series to notice, but I did notice the change in Daphne.

all the way through.
Julia Louis-Dryfus had another show a few years ago, but it ended in 2010. The character was starkly different than the Elaine character. I liked the show, but it never became a hit. The New Adventures of Old Christine.

8. No, I don't really see it. |
|
Some of my favorite Elaine episodes were towards the end of the series, including my all time favorite, "The Burning" -- the one where Puddy yells at Elaine "You stole my Jesus fish!".

9. All of the four 'main' characters were unlikable... |
|
Like the Simpsons, the show's true soul comes from its peripheral characters

11. They were all unlikeable. That was the point. |
|
They sucked.
And in the end, they went to jail for it.
Perfect ending.

14. They were all "friends," but they were also parasites |
|
They'd stick it to each other in a heartbeat. All four of them were selfish, self-absorbed, and mean-spirited...and that was the source of much of the humor.
They all lacked courage and integrity, too...especially when it came to relationships. In virtually 100% of all of the relationships on the show, they screwed over their partners, kicked them to the curb, and walked away without a trace of remorse...often making jokes about it, too.
It was a "show about nothing" featuring four central characters who did not possess a single "conscience" among them.
In short, they were probably closer to most of the "real" people we know than they were to the idealized, fictional "straight arrow" characters in shows like "Happy Days." The parents were equally messed up, too...especially the Costanzas.
